Hey all you wonderful nurses who have made the journey across the pond, or are nearly there bar the flights! I thought it might be fun/interesting/helpful if you could post something along the lines of "One thing I wish I'd done/known when going to the USA....."
It could be funny/informative or both & could encompass learning to live in the USA or work or the immigration process: whatever you think..........
You never know, it might end up as the best sticky on the site
Of course I can start it off (although I don't actually qualify as I'm not there, or even nearly yet) by saying "I wish I'd known how long it was going to take!":)
Now over to y'all..................
just takes so long Waiting to move to Kansas as I met my husband 18 months ago and he farms near the nebraska border At present I am working for the British army in Germany and he is in Kansas - not a good start and we have only been married 12 months - the process for citizenship is almost as complicated as the CGFNS!!
Oh yeah - governments the world over just LOVE their red tape!! Hope it starts running quicker for you soon Chrissy!
As far as CGFNS goes I can't believe how efficient they've been for me - I got my VisaScreen Certificate today, just about 6 weeks after I applied for it!! Pity retrogressions gonna slow me up for a while though - it's like one step forward & 2 steps back!!
tHAT IT WOULD BE MUCH QUICKER TO LIST MY BASIC NURSING QUALIFICATIONS AND FORGET ABOUT ALL THE COURSES ETC = SHORTENED THE TIME - i'M STILL WAITING AFTER 12 MONTHS FOR CONFIRMATION OF COURSES WHICH i PROBABLY WON'T NEED TO USE !
Think this might be a good tip for those who follow!! Hope you don't end up waiting much longer! It does seem a horrendously long time!

one thing i'd wish i'd known was it's hard to live in us.in our country, both husbands and wives could work and they would get a household helper who does everything at home(taking care of kids, cooking, cleaning the house, doing the laundry, ironing, errands, etc).but here, you do everything and you both need to adjust with your schedules especially for the kids' sake.also, everybody here is with credit and we need that to improve our credit scores.the thing positive here is that if you work hard, you will be well compensated and you can provide for your family.in our country, even if you work hard, your pay is just the same.you cannot send your kid to a good school....
