Hey all you wonderful nurses who have made the journey across the pond, or are nearly there bar the flights! I thought it might be fun/interesting/helpful if you could post something along the lines of "One thing I wish I'd done/known when going to the USA....."
It could be funny/informative or both & could encompass learning to live in the USA or work or the immigration process: whatever you think..........
You never know, it might end up as the best sticky on the site
Of course I can start it off (although I don't actually qualify as I'm not there, or even nearly yet) by saying "I wish I'd known how long it was going to take!":)
Now over to y'all..................
I got an electric Kettle at Super Walmart last time we were over. It cost more than the really fancy, does everything coffee machine!!!
I buy Twinings in the local supermarket - although there is a good mail order variety I get too. As for Liptons - I'd rather drink coffee than that stuff!!!
However, I have to defend large Target's - I LOVE Target - could easily spend 24 hours mooching around - kids wouldn't like that though - hehehe!

hurrah for wallmart
where would us new immigrants be without it
We just bought a cuisnart tea kettle from bed bath and beyond, its really nice, as for tea bags we shipped 3000when we came so still living on them.
Trader joes does a weetabix biscuit which my kids can't tell the difference from and their $1.79 for 24 i think, as for choc world market carries most of them at a reasonable price.
I have to agree on target I love the place.

Who needs Wheetabix when there's "Apple-Cinnamon Cheerios!!!!
Yeah that again for Target!!!
ah now i didnt want to pack mine as it was £3 from dunelm and didnt seem worth it but im glad hubby insisted now
Go buy another one to pack, just in case the first one gets broken:lol2:!
We took one out with us some years back for our first holiday home but I will take another one when we go, as a back up!
I wish I had known that, even though a local police station still takes fingerprints the old fashioned way & the officer was quite willing to do them for me, his sergeant said that I have to go to Scotland Yard & pay them £60 for the privelege!! Oh, and that you have to make an appointment, which you can't do on a Wednesday!! All other days you have to call between 08.30 & 12.30. WHAT A PAIN!!!
All because where I'm getting my license endorsed to requires them!

How did you ship your T-bags? I thought i would just put mine in a box & send it with the house stuff but the freight company said that you can not pack any food or drink stuff ??
I wish I'd known how much stress there would be when it comes to US immigration policy & I wish I'd realised that Senators would be so concerned with keeping their bums on their seats that they wouldn't be willing to pass the bill that will help!
It's the unknown factor in how long the wait will be that's so difficult to deal with - they dangle the carrot of an expedited I-140 in your face then pull the carpet out from under your feet by running out of Visa numbers!! When you're trying to organise selling a house, a business & working out your kids schooling the unknown is just not good enough!!!
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.......... rant over:D

I've used Red Rose for years, I have to be really desperate to drink Liptons! I even keep a little tea caddy full of Red Rose at work. There is a real lack of understanding about using BOILING water, too! Glad you found a decent kettle. I have seen them at Target, but I haven't looked recently. I wonder if they sell at Target online?
