On-Line Anatomy and Physiology Accredited

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Dear Listmates: Does anyone know of an accredited A&PI that is offered on-line? Thanks in advance for your help.

I am currently taking my Anatomy & Physiology I through Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). There are 8 exams which have to be proctored, but the lab section is completed via virtual cadaver dissection rather than having to do the cat  (I mean how often do you see cats in emergency rooms anyways?) So far I have an A average in the class but I do study a lot. There were no prerequisites for the class and there were many class openings.

The next class opening for Human Anatomy I is October 5th. http://www.nvcc.edu

Thanks to you all for the great info -- I was planning to take my A&P at the local CC, along with chemistry (required for the nursing program I want to attend), but as a first time student at the community college, I register late -- and the classes are all filled up already! Online is the only way I'll be able to get into a program for Fall 2010. I don't want to wait, either -- I'm 56! I started nursing school in 1971, but only went a few weeks, then transferred to a business program and got a marketing degree. I need these pre-reqs to get into any program, but making sure they will transfer has been very tricky.

Hello Jersey Girl!

Thanks so very much for this info. I wanted to know about the course load...I'm currently working f/t and have a toddler. Do you think this course is doable? I plan to enroll for the Spring 2010 semester.

Thanks again!

A&P I is less work than A&P II, but it could be tough doing this with a toddler and working full time. I took A&P I as an accelerated summer course and wanted to pull my hair out, so don't do that. It should be fine as a full-length semester course, though. It's not the easiest class, but it is doable.

You will mostly likely cover 1 chapter a week, have 1 quiz a week, at least 1 lab report (they are time consuming), and an exam every few weeks. The quizzes and exams are open book, but you MUST study. They are timed, and they ask the most ridiculous questions at time - something mentioned once somewhere in the 30 page chapter - or they ask something that requires you apply what you've learned through your reading and studying. So, even though they're open book, they're not always necessarily easy, though some are easier than others.

You will have to dissect a cat, a sheep's brain, and a cow's eye, and you will have to store all these things in your home, so make sure they're away from your toddler.

You may be waitlisted, since it's a little late in the semester to register, but it's my experience that several people drop the course. Good luck!

Thanks so very much for your response!!!! I will go ahead and register (if that's even possible at this point) and feel so much more prepared because of you!

You're welcome! Good luck! :-)

Just a request any more suggestions for online A & P courses. I am alittle too late to register for spring. Does anyone know of any that start late Febuary of March?

Thanks

I want to do most or all of my prerequs online. Can anyone report whether they had trouble transferring their online classes into nursing school? Also, what are good schools that do NOT require proctors for exams?

I recommend Cayuga Community College online courses, they have almost every prereq for nursing you'll need including sciences and math. I took A+P I &II, micro, intro soc, intro pysch, life span, english I&II, west civil and child psych all online. The great thing about them is they have a lab component on a cd that you do and then only get quizzed on them so no having to turn in or do physical labs. Micro you do have to buy a lab kit and do them at home but honestly as long as you do good lab reports you'll be fine because the pics I took of my labs weren't visible and I still got all credit minus 1 point for forgetting to attach a pic. It depends on which professor you get whether the final will be in person but if you live farther out you can get it sent to an approved proctor. I haven't ran across a class that makes you take proctored tests they're usually all online. The only class I took that required me to come in for a final was A+P II which the final was easy because most of the questions were on previous tests. My sister took it at Cayuga also and had a different professor and didn't have to go in for a final they just did it online. If you can sign up quick because they have summer session courses that have started and they have more starting second session around july and they only last 5 weeks so you can have like 2-4 classes knocked out by end of summer but the max is 15 cr for summer. Then during the regular semester they have accelerated online classes especially for psych, english, soc, and most of the time A+P and these only last half semester so you can knock out 4-5 more classes in fall. The schools I applied to accepted all my classes. My sister knocked out 4 classes last summer of prereqs and she was accepted into the only school she applied to. By the way the transcript lists all online courses just as if you were sitting in the classroom itself it doesn't designate online or not. I'm telling you if you can work it out Cayuga Community College definitely is the way to go if you want to get your classes done in a timely manner and they aren't really even difficult. Depending on your situation and how fast and how many you want to complete, you can get 8 classes done by the end of Dec of this year. Hope I was of some help. Good Luck!!!

I just graduated with my A.S. this spring. All of my classes were online through ccconline and I haven't had any problem with them being accepted at two local state university BSN programs.

MMT,

Can you tell me what the class structure was like for Clovis? Were the exams open book and how are the labs done? Thanks

do you mind saying which schools you applied to that accepted your online credits ?

I'ce only looked at NYU (which loudly said, "NO" to online courses and at columbia which said, "sure" to online courses)
