On-Line Anatomy and Physiology Accredited

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Dear Listmates: Does anyone know of an accredited A&PI that is offered on-line? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey, so I am applying to westchester community college's nursing program but I still need to finish anatomy and physiology 1 and 2 before june! I need to take a physiology 1 course online and complete it before the end of January when I would have to begin the anatomy and physiology 2 on campus. Any suggestions where I can sign up online asap to start the course??

I know that Northern Virginia Community College offers shortened A&P 1 and 2 courses (down to 6 weeks I think) and everything is online. I am taking A&P 1 and it is a good course even though its all online but mine is around 10 or 12 weeks.

Sorry, probably not before January though. The latest start they had for the course was October.

"Working at the pace typical for a four semester hour course, the average student will complete the online course in approximately 16 weeks. Students may enroll at any time. Many students are nontraditional students who have elected an on-line course for it's flexibility. Therefore students may complete the course in less than 16 weeks or they may take up to 8 months."

thanks for sharing these resources.

I would not take A&P online...First of all, it requires a lab (which is required for nursing school - I don't know a school that doesn't require a lab)...Second, its a HARD class to just learn out of a book from. You need time with body and bone models and an instructor to help piece everything together. If you were taking it online, you wouldn't be able to go into the depth that is necessary to truly learn the material. I'm in A&P 1 right now and I can't imagine taking it online. It would be a nightmare!

i already took the class in the late 80s, earning A's, but was just interested in review.

EEK! That's a big time crunch...I know it sucks, but I recommend taking the full length A&P courses w/ lab (not online! a lot of college may not accept it) and waiting for the next application to come around. A&P is one of the most important prerequisites you will take for nursing school and its best not to rush through it! In the end, you will feel overwhelmed...I tried taking an accelerated A&P course last summer and I dropped it before it was too late to get my money back. There was no way I was going to learn all that stuff in 8 weeks! One of my friends continued with the class and dropped it half way through. She felt like she was so overwhelmed with info that she wasn't even learning anything because it was so fast pace. Right now, I'm in a full 16 week (one semester) long A&P course and its perfect. I'm getting an A right now and I really think its because I'm able to take my time and really learn the material with out the pressure of a time crunch. Even though I have to wait longer to apply to the program I want to get into, I'm able to work on gen eds for when I do my RN-BSN and work and save money! Don't rush and make the course harder than it already is!!!

I'm new to this site but when I read all of the comments; I just had to see if anyone could help. Are these A&P classes together or separate? I'm in Ca and the rules are strict. I need A&P&Micro with labs.

Where in Cali are you? I am in So Cal and most of the classes here that I have seen are seperate. You take Anatomy (which has a basic bio pre req) first as a pre req to Physiology. For Micro I believe the pre req was basic bio and intro to chem for most schools.

James,

I'm currently taking A&P I online with a particular instructor and I'm not very happy. I have to register for A&P II but don't know if I should pick the same instructor or someone else. This is a very tough course and I understand there is a lot of required material that we need to study. However, I feel the instructor is a little too tough, with not providing any outlines for reviewing the tough exams. I also do not like how we will have a quiz let's say on 3 chapters, then after the next 10-12 days we have an exam on those 3 chapters, plus on the new chapter or chapters we just studied those last days. There doesn't seem to be any guidance. I don't know if it's like this with all the professors, but the tests are extremely difficult too. I don't want to name names on a public board here, and since I just signed up I can't email you a personal emal. I don't know if you can email me though. I'd just like to get some feedback from you. There also was an issue with the CD. We were told to get Version 8, then midway we were told there was a version 9 but the info was exactly the same which is not true. This provided a lot of confusion on the lab quizzes since it was based on 9, but we were told to get 8. Ugh! So I'd really appreciate your thoughts.

Based on what you say in your post, I would go with a different instructor, but you should talk to some students who have experience with the other instructors so that you do not go from the frying pan into the fire. Good luck.

I am trying to complete anatomy and physiology 1 by feb 1 to complete my pre req does any one know of an accredited school that offers it?? Thank you for your help!
