On-Line Anatomy and Physiology Accredited

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Dear Listmates: Does anyone know of an accredited A&PI that is offered on-line? Thanks in advance for your help.

Nicole, you will still be able to apply by April 1st for fall start even if you are taking 102 at the time (in spring term). They will 'wait' on grades from 102 to be recorded before making final decisions.

Hi, no, I am not in nursing school. . .yet. I applied at the Indy campus for Spring 2010 and am waiting to hear. Unfortunately I don't have books to sell. I am currently taking 201 in person, and I need the textbook to refer to for that class.

I will say that for the at-home labs, I only did the ones that were computer-simulated or watching videos. I did not do any that were dissecting (cow eyeball, sheep brain, chicken wing in 101, fetal pig in 102). In fact I didn't even buy the lab kit for 102. I did buy it for 101 but really didn't use it at all.

Hi, thanks for letting me know! No worries on the books! Just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask! :wink2:

Well, I am sure you will do well in Nursing!

Same with you too Nicole!!

God speed!

Thanks for the info!! Good luck, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. How did you get out of the dissecting? Were you required to take the TEAS exam at your campus? I really feel like I am not going to be prepared taking it. Any suggestions or advice? I have to go up to Gary today or tomorrow. They have me down as "courses only" and said I need to come in to change it.

I am taking mine at Clovis Community College, just in case anyone wants one more suggestion.

Yes I took the TEAS. I thought the official ATI study guide was a pretty good preparation for it.

I 'got out of' doing the dissecting by just, not doing it. There is enough stuff out there on Youtube and whatnot that you can find videos of just about anything you need. Also, the "lab quizzes" for online 101 were really not over the labs, they were more over the textbook chapters. For online 102, the lab quizzes WERE over the labs but a lot of the labs in 102 were computer simulated.

Thanks for recommending. I am looking at a couple classes that start on 10/19. Can you tell me a little about your experience? Have you run into any situations where you have to go to the campus? That would be impossible for me as I am in IL. Thanks for any info you have.

Nicole

Nicole, for online 101 or 102, you have to go to either an Ivy Tech campus or to another approved proctor location to take two of the four exams. Those are the only two times you have to go to a campus for the exams. If you are near the border with Indiana, maybe there is an Ivy Tech campus somewhere near there? If not, I am pretty sure that you could go to your local comm. college testing center--you just have to let your professor know the name/address/email etc. so that he can send the test information to the testing center. I think as long as it is an accredited college then they will okay you going there for tests. Someone in one of my online classes this past spring was actually in Oregon or somewhere.

For the 8-wk term class, you would pretty much have to read two chapters a week and take two quizzes; do two discussion board postings a week; and you'd have an exam about every 2 wks or so. There are four exams, with Exam 2 being the midterm (cumulative from the first chapter) and exam 4 is the final and is cumulative over the whole semester. You have to get a 65% on the final to pass the class, no matter what your grade going into the final was. i.e. you could have a B going into the final, but then if you get less than 65% on the final you would not pass no matter what. The good thing about the exams is that you have access to practice quizzes to help study for the exams, and the practice quizzes are very representative of what is on the exams.

Sorry about that csab. I was trying to get some information from MMT4 re: Clovis Community College. I am thinking of taking classes there instead and transferring into a BSN program. Ivy Tech is going to be alot more expensive and none of the schools I am looking at have APHY 101 as a requirement. They all look for BIO's in the 200's. I really don't want to take a chance on those classes and spend more $ than I have to.

That's okay, I wondered if you were asking about Ivy Tech or not and figured it couldn't hurt to answer just in case. I'm surprised to hear that Ivy Tech seems expensive--usually everyone is amazed at how cheap it is. As far as Bio classes, it really depends on the school as to what they call their classes. One school's Bio 201 might be another school's Physiology 101. For example Indiana University School of Nursing lists their required classes as a 5-credit Anatomy as BIOL N261, plus the 5-cr. Physiology is BIOL N217, and those two are 'equal' to Ivy Tech's APHY 101, 102, and 201.

Oh ok I didn't think you were asking me! Since you are I don't have to go to campus at all and for A&P the tests are unproctored. You do them at home and there is a time limit.

I live about 4 hours from Clovis and I would not want to go to campus - glad I don't have to.

I think for proctored exams for other classes you have to find your own proctor and fill out an approval form.

Clovis has great tuition rates. The book was expensive, and the ordering process could have been a little more modern - I had to either fax or phone in the order - but the book got to my house on Monday, and I had ordered it on Friday.

A large number of the students in the class are in the Clovis/West Texas area but I think that speaks more to the popularity of the class and how many people need to take it than it does to any need of being close to the school.

Good luck!

Good info, thanks to you both!

csab- I am out of state so its like $220/credit, Clovis is cheaper. Plus the book is $293.00 plus the lab kit and the cut off was Sept. 9th to have it put in my student loans so I have to pay out of pocket.

mmt4- It was such a breeze registering, I was surprised when I couldn't order the book online!! oh well...good thing I have a fax machine here. one question... what about the dissecting, were you able to do something else since you're online? Did you take Gen. Biology? I'm going to start with that, its the only one open for Oct. and here they make you take that first anyways unless you're straight out of hs.

thanks,

Nicole

Aha, the out of state tuition thing is what I wasn't realizing you'd have to pay.
