On-Line Anatomy and Physiology Accredited

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Dear Listmates: Does anyone know of an accredited A&PI that is offered on-line? Thanks in advance for your help.

Specializes in None.

Glow Worm,

Ocean County College in Toms River NJ is fully accredited and offers A&P I and II ONLINE (with lab) all summer long. Many students take the prerequisite science courses online at OCC and then go back to their local nursing program. There were many students from Alaska in my class taking their prerequisites waiting to start their programs in Alaska.

OCC offers hands-on labs with a microscope and a labpaq delivered to your door step. Here is the link to their science online courses:

Jersey nursing Girl

Jersey Nursing Girl, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been searching for several weeks now for a NJ online A&P class. I signed up for a more expensive class at a PA community college that I was worried about paying for. Thank you again!!!! You have made my very stressful day! :-)

Specializes in Critical Care, Clinical Documentation Specialist.

I'm taking AP1 online right now through ccconline. Its 225.40/credit for out of state (CO). You buy a lab kit and do them at home. The exams are open book but are not easy. We have lots of assignments, labs and journal entries - 1050 points in total for 10 units, with an exam only worth 20. I was worried about them being online too, but when I got my transcripts they show up as regular classes from your 'parent' school. I love my class although its definitely a LOT of work, I'm going to take AP2 and Micro online this summer.

Thank you, Sand dollar!

Does anyone know of on-line A&P courses that do not require you to take a lab?

Specializes in Hospice / Ambulatory Clinic.

It would be worth taking one with a lab since every nursing school prereq requirements I've seen all require you to have a lab portion.

But if I could find one without the requirement, does the class without a lab online even exist?

Hi, I know you mentioned taking the A&P courses online- were those transferable to other major Universities?

I am trying to contact some local schools and see if they would accept an online A&P course, but I haven't heard back from anyone.

Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!

They should be transferable ArtofGrace because the CC's are accredited. I am applying to the University of Colorado and they have no problem with them being online. As well, when you enroll with the parent school, the classes show up as though they were through them directly. It doesn't even show up as an online class, which is a nice little perk.

Hi Sand dollar! Thanks for getting back to me!

I am a little sad, as I am trying my hardest to get into the Nursing program by next Fall 2010.

To make a long story short, I am 28, went to school for a few years in my early 20s. I got a good job, and ended up holding off on college.

After much praying and thought, I really want to major in Nursing. I really do not want to have to wait until Spring 2011 to get into the program. I wanted to try and get in next fall 2010. In order to do that, I need to have both A&P courses done before next summer. This is one of my only options.

I made some phonecalls to a few major universities near me (Indiana) and they all said they would not accept an online A&P course. I know you said the class doesn't show up like an online course, but I am worried that if I take the online course there that the universities here would ask me why/how I took a A&P in Colorado.

Can you help/advise me? : )

Hi ArtofGrace,

You have a very good point about having to explain how you took a class in another state. Can you take it online in Indiana like I do here? Check under the Region tab for your specific state, and look through it... there may be a class listed that doesn't show up as online. Also try a general search for 'online Indiana', that may turn something up.

As well, I can relate to wanting to get into school faster, but your not very old and putting it off a year won't kill you (although it may feel like that). I am 41 and ended up putting off school until my kids were older. Besides that, initially I was going to go to a private school and could have been starting in Oct. However, I decided to apply to the state U because of cost, but doing so required an entire year of repeat classes because mine were too old. That really stunk.

When does your application have to be in? If you haven't already gotten into a class this fall, you will have spring and summer to take them. Can you submit your application while you are taking a class, or do you have to have everything done? Just trying to look at all the options.

I'm sorry I can't give you any more specific advice. I hope it all works out for you, keep me posted. :)

OH, btw... I am applying to start summer of 2010, but if I don't get into that cohort the next one is Spring of 2011. It may be longer than I'd like, but I will still take it!
