On avergage, how long are LPN to RN programs?

Nursing Students LPN-RN

I always thought they were only 2 semesters long, but after looking at some curriculums, it looks like a lot of them (at least in VA) are 4 semesters.

Summer transition, fall and spring here too!

The program I am starting is two semesters, fall and spring semester. All pre-reqs must be completed prior to admission into the program.

@tinker, no 6 week transition class @ all?

Specializes in Emergency Nursing.

I stared the day after Memorial day this year and I will graduate some time in early May of next year. As of now they are telling us probably by the first week. This is just to get my ASN though. I plan on jumping right back in for my BSN :)

Specializes in burn ICU, SICU, ER, Trauma Rapid Response.

Mine was two semesters, 9 months including a month off for Christmas / new years in between. I deliberately chose Wisconsin for that reason. No silly transition classes and very inexpensive, about $2600 including tuition, books and fees.

My program is a year and two days started May 20 of year, will graduate May 22 of next year. We have four terms of about 3 months each.[/quote']

What school do you go to? What are the admission requirements? I'm in Fort Lauderdale..

Mine was two semesters of nursing classes (Fall and Spring). We entered the program at the 2nd year of the ADN nursing classes. Before we could start the nursing classes we had to complete a 6 week online transition class (which was done during the early Spring semester) and then a 2 week clinical/class for our school (which followed right after the online portion).

My school did require that you take the 1st year non-nursing classes prior to taking the online transitional class/clinical floor. So if you had no transferable classes toward those non-nursing classes it would take you longer than the 2 semesters.

I started in the Fall of 2011 taking the non-nursing classes (took classes in Fall, Spring and Summer) and graduated in May 2013..one calander year of non-nursing classes and one calander year of nursing. I took not only my 1st year non-nursing classes in that year prior to starting the RN classes but also the 2nd year non-nursing classes so that I would only have to concentrate on nursing classes when they started.

Specializes in Med-Surg, Ortho, Subacute, Homecare, LTC.

Mine is 11 months! January 9th '13 to December 10th '13.. For an ADN

At pookyp- I go to Academy for Nursing and Health Occupations in West Palm Beach. Very rigorous, fast paced program; however you have your license in hand in a little over a year. Might be worth looking into....

Yes I'm interested. I went to the site. How much is the program? Do you have to be an lpn for a certain amount of time before applying? Do you find it HARD? You can send me a message if you want.. Do they take financial aid? Thanks so much!

The ones around here are about a year long if all of your credits transfer.

@pookyp-I'm not going to sugarcoat this, the bridge program is hard. This is coming from someone who was valedictorian of her LPN class. Be prepared to hit the ground running from day one and do not slack off on reading the chapters. If you do, you will fall behind quickly. The vast majority of us still work full-time. It is a juggling act, but doable. Yes, you have to be an LPN in order to be accepted into the program. I think they also want you to have paid experience of at least six months as a nurse. Yes, they do accept federal financial aid. Do you have your prereqs done? If so, you can probably get into the upcoming September or January classes. With prereqs done, the program is around $15k. I would send you a PM but never could figure out how to work that feature...BTW, the program in the evening Mon-Thurs 5p-11p.
