Olivet Nazarene FNP

Nursing Students NP Students

Hi! I'm looking at FNP programs. What have you heard about Olivet Nazarene University? I've heard great things so far. The only thing I'm a little worried about is the curriculum; it looks like there aren't as many core FNP classes as there are in other programs. Has anyone gone through their FNP program? Have any insight? Thanks!

Hi ClayH,

Thank you so much for your words of advice. I am willing to put in the work. I don't know any current or past students who can speak to the pace or the quality of the courses. I am concerned about how well the program will prepare the students for the boards.

ClayH, I think I still have to take that Statistics course. I already started to look for online class. ONU said I will hear from them next week after they review my transcript.

Chikpow,

I don't know if you are from IL or not but ONU is pretty well respected school. The ANA-Illinos actually ranked ONUs FNP #1 last year for the state over any other university. Even so, I agree that passing licensing exams is another beast. Everyone I have ever talked to says that doing the Fitzgerald prep course is how you pass the exam.

Netch,

I heard the stats course at ONU was kind of rough since it was a graduate level stats. I would definitely take it at a community college quick over the summer and then transfer it in :)

If you all don't mind me asking, how did you make the decision to study at ONU over other FNP programs such as U of Michigan or Duke?

For me, it simply came down to cost. My employer gives some reimbursement but not enough. The rest I am paying. ONU was about half the cost and I didn't have to lose the reputable CCNE program accreditation by going to ONU. Also, like I said earlier, 2 year program at ONU compared to 3 years at the other schools was a no brainier to me. That's just my opinion.

Yes the cost and 2yr program attracted me as well as the good reputation of the school. Everyone I have dealt with so far has been great.

Netch88 did you ever hear from ONU?!

ClayH, yes, I have heard from them. They seem to have lost my credential evaluation I submitted several years back so I had to request it again. Then my GPA was missing.. That is all they need before they can give me a go signal. :D I was told by admissions that there are still slots left for the August start.

Oh geez... All minor road bumps on the way to the ultimate goal though! Glad to hear things are still progressing for you!

Hello all! I will be starting ONU FNP program on August 22! Any future classmates? Feel free to PM me or email me at [email protected]. I've heard positive things about ONU but I would like more feedback about finding clinic sites. Any advice or recommendations? Thank you!

Welcome Vladak86!

Congrats on getting in to the FNP program! I too will be starting Aug 22nd. I think we'll have one or two more classmates from this thread as well. I don't know where you live, but I am out of state (AZ) but it sounds like it's kind of the same process for preceptors regardess. You find your own. I did see a packet or a video at some point that basically said if you have exhausted all options to let them know and they will call preceptors in your behalf. I don't think many students have gotten to that point though as I have found most preceptors to be happy to help as they were all students at one point.
