Olivet Nazarene FNP

Hi! I'm looking at FNP programs. What have you heard about Olivet Nazarene University? I've heard great things so far. The only thing I'm a little worried about is the curriculum; it looks like there aren't as many core FNP classes as there are in other programs. Has anyone gone through their FNP program? Have any insight? Thanks!

I am in NJ so I was specifically looking for online. The program is affordable compared to others. I did my BSN online, so I am aware it is essentially self taught with some guidance. All programs I have looked into require you find your own preceptors. I already have a primary care preceptor lined up. I find it suspicious you just joined an hour ago and this is your only post?

Pumpkin1975, what you do with schooling is your own problem. You say you got your primary preceptor lined up, that's great. So did some of my classmates that dropped out after the preceptor changed his/her mind or became ill. If you do not have a backup preceptor then you are screwed. I joined this page so that I can warn others about this inadequate program. I am in it so I am speaking from experience. I have gotten more education from a community college than from Olivet. You say that it is affordable. It certainly is, but you get what you pay for and education or support is not one of them. This page was designed so that people like ME can answer other people's questions in regards to something they are unsure about. My previous post was MY own opinion. For that reason, please leave your negativity at home and learn to respect others. Take care.

Lol. My post was respectful I was just responding to you that your concerns with the program weren't the same as mine. Did you complete the program?

I have six months left. Very disappointed with the whole thing though.

I have no experience with the program (and if others had a fine experience, then ok), but I do have experience with speaking with their advisors who had told me they had students who were from my state and did clinicals in my state and it all worked out. I contacted my state BON who said that is completely illegal, not acceptable, untrue, and no students are allowed to do clinicals in my state if going to Olivet (wasn't approved). I then contacted the school to let them know I am withdrawing my application due to the said above issues and they said oh that's weird and too bad (never heard from them again). Thank goodness I always do my research on each school I am interested in and after that experience I always checked with my BON to make sure if the outside school was approved in my state for clinicals. I also find it odd that it's SO easy to get in, as in no recommendations needed or essay, etc. It's a non for profit just about acting like a for profit school (diploma mill/money maker). Just replying to say do research and be careful, that's all.

Update-just finished Week one, I am very happy with the orientation and communication so far. Everything is organized and laid out as far as the classes, and I had access to the class a couple weeks before the start date.

Glad to hear things are going well! Do you feel like you are going to be given the opportunity to succeed? i.e. Not on your own to try and figure things out. 6 week courses seem to be kind of intimidating too. I will be starting in the fall. Best of luck and keep us updated!

Yes I feel like there is a lot is support and everything is laid out ahead of time

I am very happy to hear things are going well! I'm obviously just anxious to get started and was concerned with all the negative reviews on here.

it appears to be a solid program but you must never know.

Thanks again for the update!

Hi Mel73,

I am in the process of applying to the Fall 2016 cohort, may I contact you for advise?

Hi ClayH,

I am hoping to apply for the Fall semester as well but am worried about having to find my own preceptors. Do you have your preceptors all lined up already?

Hi Chikpow,

yeah unfortunatley finding your own preceptors is the standard now (at least every state school in AZ where I live). I have a friend graduating from U of A FNP program and he thinks he will be able to get me in with his preceptors. I am still networking in my own though just be make sure it's covered. How about you? When are you starting? I start Aug 22nd
