Okay, I'll be the first...Keiser University.

Hello,

I wanted to begin a KU thread for those who are:

Thinking about attending,

Planning to attend,

Your 'last' resort,

Your 'plan B' if 'plan A' doesn't work out,

Keeping your options open, while still waiting to hear from the less expensive school(s), and/or wanting to begin your Nursing journey/career right away despite the odds.

So,

When do you plan on taking the TEAS or have you taken it already?

Did you complete your general education requirements or in the process of completing them?

When do you plan to begin your core (Nursing courses) requirements?

Which campus are you seeking to attend?

Let's chat, share thoughts and ideas. Hope to hear from you all soon...Take care.

Congrats! But I have a question. You start classes on 9/30 but you haven't taken the TEAS yet? How is that possible? Where I'm at you must pass the TEAS before you're even accepted and are able to start any classes even pre-reqs. I thought all KU campuses worked the same way.

Thanks! Yes, I start my first pre-req class on Monday and plan to take the exam in December. Here in JAX, a potential nursing candidate is required to pass the TEAS prior to the start of program. So, apparently it's not the same throughout the system.

Are you taking your pre-req at keiser

Hi! Yes, I'm taking all of the general education classes at KU. I got your message, but am unable to reply through message.

What questions do you have? I'd be glad to answer them here.

OK thanks for responding

What made you try Keiser over Kaplan or other schools of their kinds...I am trying to gather all information I can from anyone in either program? I have my AA from FSCJ and all required pre reqs. I have passed all entrance exams for Kaplan but I'm still nervous to sign the papers for their program... They quoted a price of around 23k total...... Is there anyone out there in or completed Kaplans or keiser nursing program????? I'm sooooooooo nervous :nailbiting:

I would not go to Kaplan. Their program is not accredited by the ACEN (NLNAC). It's difficult to get a job or get accepted into RN-BSN programs if you don't graduate from an accredited school.

As far as FSCJ vs. Keiser, you need to weigh the pros and cons and decide which is best for you. They are both fully accredited.

In general, FSCJ pros are that it's well established and cheap.

Keiser is very expensive, but it is accelerated and has small class sizes so you can get more individualized attention from your instructors.

I agree 100% with Helano. First and foremost you must find a program that is accredited. Then from there look at what you're trying to accomplish (ASN vs. BSN). Research the schools thoroughly. By then you'll have a good idea of which program is the best for you. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Hello I am the same from "Futurejaxrn" (had to make a new profile)

But, when I go onto Florida Board of Nursing website, it list Kaplan as accredited just through a different entity. However you will still be able to sit for the NCLEX to obtain RN License.... I mean in the end, thats all we are shooting for anyhow..right? (plus they have evening/wknd program) I'm not trying to be argumentative I just want to make sure Im covering all options. So being that all my pre reqs are from the comm college and I have a AA degree (FSCJ) I should be accepted into any BSN program of choice. Being that I would have a RN license regardless of where I went for the program. This is the information I was told there, & at FSCJ however schools will tell you anything to get your tuition money. Im just trying to make a sound smart decision, that I wont regret in the end. If anyone have any feedback with Kaplan please do advise and share your experience. I have been applying with FSCJ for a full year with no luck of acceptance:down:

It does like they are approved by the FLBON, but they are not accredited by the nursing agencies ACEN and CCNE. Many employers will not hire students from schools without these accreditations, and many universities will not accept these schools for RN to BSN programs.

Hello everyone. A friend of mine is planning on attending KU for the ADN. He mentioned that, although expensive, their program is great because you take one class at a time. Is that true?

For the pre-reqs yes, you win take the TEAS and once you pass you can have an meeting with the committee and start pre reqs. You can do them online or at school. Every 5 weeks you star a new one. Once in the nursing then you take like 3 classes at a time and go to clinicals.

I don't go to Keiser but that is how two of my friends have done it and what was offered to me when I went in for information.

I see. Now I understand. That's not bad at all if you financially commit yourself. Thanks for the reply.
