Hey everyone, I am in need of some advise and there is NO place better than this forum. I'll be starting a nursing program here in MD. in the fall and have been given the name of the Med-Surg book we'll be using (Medical-Surgical Nursing by Mosby,Volumes 1&2 w/ CD, 6th ed.) and its study guide. Now I have heard some "not to good" things about this book. I was wondering if anyone else does not like this book and if there is a better book out there to use as a companion to this book. We do have to purchase this book for school but if I had another source, it would be very helpful!

Thanks to all and be safe!!

I'm very partial the "Made Incredibly Easy" books.

They do have a "Medical Surgical Made Incredibly Easy" Book that I bought and love. I still have it and use it as a reference. I also used it thoughout nursing school..hope that helps!

Thanks MeghanRN...I have heard alot about the nursing made easy series. I'll look into it....andything with "made easy" in the title is a book for me!!

I like Medical/Surgical Nursing by Ignatavicius. It's concise, to the point, user friendly and well organized. We also had to buy Porth's Pathophysiology but it's written in such advanced jargon, I never use it.

Hey, we used Iggy!! It's a pretty good book.

Specializes in OB.

Medical Surgical Nursing.... Black & Hawks. awesome book. Heavy too.. weighs about 18lbs. good thing, its the only excercise Im getting while in school :lol2:

Specializes in OB, lactation.

We used Iggy too, & I like it, but I supplemented it with Medical-surgical Nursing Reviews & Rationales when I wanted just the highlights/most important info. It usually had the test material without me having to read all the extra info in Iggy.

AMEN to that one moongirl! My backside is not fond of me being back in school.

Specializes in L&D, Antepartum.

We use Iggy too and I really like it. I get lots of my rationales for my care plans from Iggy. Oh and I use a rolling backpack. Between Iggy and my binder, nevermind Ackley and Potter & Perry, I could never carry them on my back.

Specializes in med surg, tele, ortho, preop, recovery.

I like Prentice-Hall Med Surg Review

Iggy is the way to go. Very good book. They break all disorders down and categorize them by system. Under every condition you have the patho, etiology and genetic risk, incidence, assessment, history, physical manifestations, labs, diagnostics, interventions, drug therapy etc.

I recently finished a med-surg class and bought extra books as well. I purchased the "Straight A's In medical surgical nursing" and really liked it! It provides 2 formats of learning. On every page it has 2 ways to study...the first outline is on the outer part of the page that gives key points and in the middle of the page it's an outline. It was about $36 dollars but I thought it was worth it. It also has a few nclex questions at the end.
