Taking the NCLEX in 3 weeks
Doom's day for me is september 11 at 8 am, yea I said the same thing....9-11!!! Any suggestions on what to study these last couple of weeks? I'm going to go back over my systems and drugs and so forth but what else should I do? I've heard a lot of people say there isn't much studying to do for it because you never know what your going to get.

J. Sargent Reynolds RN program
I'm not sure how long the wait is for the LPN program is now. When I registered for it a year ago it was only a semester but I'm sure it's backing up now because people don't want to wait for the RN program.

nursing uniforms
I'm doing a project for one of my classes and my topic is white uniforms, why or why not? Are there any articles on the internet related to my topic? Or, what is your opinion on the uniforms? I think they should keep nurses wearing the cute scrubs instead of strict uniforms. The designed uniforms show your personality. When going into a patients room you shoul identify yourself and who you are. I understand some people dont know the difference between the kitchen staff and the janitors. I remember growing up and saying I wanted to become a nurse to wear the designer scrubs. Wearing a white uniform wouldn't stay clean for long, especially working in some specialty areas. So, what's your opinion? yes or no?

nursing shortage
I'm doing a presentation for one of my classes for school on the nursing shortage. I was wondering if anyone knew of any articles, websites or journals that I could use for my presentation. The presentation is to be presented on July 19th, so any information you guys have I'd be thrilled with the help! Thank you...

Richmond VA salary questions
To be honest, the program is unorganized but a lot of people said that goes for other nursing programs also. The only people that could get into the summer pne 188 class were those that are graduating in july because they dont have enough clinical teachers or teachers to teach the class. But, the president of the college is aware of the situation and said they would work on it and lets hope they do. The only pre-req for the LPN program is an english, health/pe elective, psy, orientation class (which all reynolds students have to take) and 1 anatomy class. For the RN program they require a few more classes, you have to have 2 english classes and 2 anatomy classes, sociology class and I think that's it. As far as the hours, they usually take place in the morning. For my first semester I was in school from about 9-2. For the first 8 weeks we had clinicals from 7-1, one day a week. The second 8 weeks we had it twice a week from 7-1 also. The second semester I was only in class for 2 hours with clinicals once a week but a 10 hour shift or you could do clinicals 2 times a week for 5 hours a day. The last semester of school varies. Right now i'm doing my PSY rotation and we have class from 9-12 one day and 2-5 the next day with clinicals on friday from 7-1230. One of my friends is doing her PEDS rotation and she's in school one day from 9-4 then the next day is 1-4 with clinicals on saturday from 7-330. As far as the program length, it depends on how long you have to wait because it's starting to back up. I waited 1 semester, got in in august and i'll be finished in july. Once you get in it's about a year. And you can transition over to the RN program which only takes about a year also. There's good things and bad things with the program but so far i've been satisfied. And i've heard if you can get through the LPN program you wont have any problems with the RN program. So if you have any more questions concerning the program dont hesitate to ask and I wish you luck with making a decision on which school to attend.

J. Sargent Reynolds RN program
I'm not in the RN program but i'm finishing up my LPN degree this semester and hoping to transition over to the RN in spring 07. It'll take me about a year once I get in to take everything I need. After the NUR 115 class (transition course) you are able to take a test to see if you can test out of NUR 112 but if you can't then you have to take the class which they dont recommend taking in the summer because of the amount of information. The waiting list for the RN program is ridiculous and something needs to be done soon! I've been in school since august of 04 and they told me then the wait was 12-18 months and it's only getting longer now. The whole program is nothing but a run-around...this person tells you this and the person over there tells you something completly different. My advice, stay on top of things! Make them remember who you are! If you dont stay on top of things you'll be lost and won't know what to do. We do our clinicals at Henrico Doctors, MCV, St. Marys, Community, Cumberland....local places. I feel as if I've learned a lot since i've started my nursing classes (which was in august) but I still feel as if I have more learning to go before I feel comfortable doing a procedure or being a nurse. I havn't had much experience doing procedures. Since august i've passed meds and giving them through IV's, given 2 shots, little wound care, tube feedings, taken catheters/IV's/strykers out...but that's about it. I feel I havn't done as much as I should be doing... Just a recap, stay on top of things and good luck with the program!

about to do my psy rotation....
Okay, tomorrow is my first day of my psy rotation and I'm scared , I dont know what to expect. I'm expecting like drug addicts being restrained and going through withdrawal and all this other mess. Communication is another big issue i'm worried about, i'm scared of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time or just not saying anything at all. Tommorow is our first psy clinical and I think our teacher is throwing us in a room with a psy patient for 30 minutes and want us to carry on a conversation with them. SCARY!! Please help me with what I need to expect and some tips of what to do or when not to do certain things. Thanks!

Jobs for LPN's
I'd like to get a job in the hospital for the experience. I've heard the money for LPN's is in the nursing homes. I figured if I start in a hospital I can move up to a better job after I graduate with my RN. I was just trying to look at my options. I guess I just need to start looking around to see who will hire me as an LPN. Thanks for your help!

Jobs for LPN's
I will be graduating from my schools LPN program in august and transitioning over to the RN program in the spring. The thing is, they want the transitioning students to have experience as an LPN before coming into the RN program. My question is, working in a hospital what kind of floor am I allowed to work on? I've noticed that a lot of places are ruling out hiring LPN's so I'm kind of worried I wont find a job. I liked observing in the OR and I know the scrub nurses are allowed to be LPN's but where else am I allowed to go? It seems as if I have just a handful of options....

Kaplan questions
I just ordered the Kaplan-PN book today. I bought it from amazon.com for $16.50. I also ordered Saunders Q & A Review, is that any good? That book was $32.00 I believe but If it helps me pass the first time than i'm willing to buy anything....we'll see come august. Thanks for your help!

Kaplan questions
Does it cost anything to download the program from the website? I thought it was a book you could buy with a CD w/ practice questions. I looked on barnes and noble and there's also a Kaplan bok you can buy. So is that the only thing you used to study for the test?
