Hey everyone, I am in need of some advise and there is NO place better than this forum. I'll be starting a nursing program here in MD. in the fall and have been given the name of the Med-Surg book we'll be using (Medical-Surgical Nursing by Mosby,Volumes 1&2 w/ CD, 6th ed.) and its study guide. Now I have heard some "not to good" things about this book. I was wondering if anyone else does not like this book and if there is a better book out there to use as a companion to this book. We do have to purchase this book for school but if I had another source, it would be very helpful!

Thanks to all and be safe!!

I have never heard of that book but will look into it heaverboo...thanks to all...it looks like I'll have some serious reading to do over the summer.

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

If you can afford it, it would be very smart to buy yourself a second nursing textbook to use as a reference for yourself at home. It never hurts to get two views on a subject. You should make sure you have a good nursing fundamentals book--the kind of textbook that is going to give you the basics and rationale for things like aseptic techniques, how to give an injection, how to apply warm compresses, etc.--basic nursing procedures.

While you're sitting around this summer (ha! ha!), surf a few of the websites of the colleges that have nursing schools. Go into their online bookstores if they have them and see what textbooks they are using for their classes. They should also give the prices. Mosby has been around a long time. We had an earlier version of it when I was in nursing school back in 1973. We also had a nursing text by Smith and Gips which I'm sure is no longer in publication.
