Hey all,
Anyone else applying for Fall 2015 BSN program at OHSU?
I am getting my application together now, but I wont be able to finalize or submit it until after December when fall term grades are posted. I am only applying to OHSU, specifically the Monmouth campus. I currently have a 3.93GPA and after Fall term I will have all but two prerequisites finished. The remaining two are Writing-122 and Nutrition.
I think I have a pretty competitive application but there is still a lot of doubt.
I have experience working in long term care and also as an EMT in an under served rural community. I know I will also get extra consideration for having already taken Microbiology.
I know we are still months away from interviews or acceptance letters but it would be nice to get the conversation started and get to know others who will be applying for 2015.

I think that's about right, if the regular program is anything like the AccBac program, which I interviewed for (Portland campus). We were told there were around 450 applicants, 120 selected for interviews, competing for 62 seats. Good luck!
Mar 18 by hananaAlso I think we have a 50/50 shot at getting in once we interview for OHSU right? Number of interviews vs. number of accepted applicants is about that ratio?
Hi MotoMonkey:) I applied for OHSU La Grande campus. My overall GPA is 3.83 yet my science GPA is only about a 3.2. I have all of my prerequisites done (Just finished Microbiology yesterday) in addition to all of my upper division coursework completed. I also have my CNA 1 and about 140 hours of volunteer hours in a medical setting. Even with my lower science GPA I recieved a letter from OHSU last week asking me to come in for an interview😊 This said, its nice to know that they must be weighing other factors when selecting candidates. I have predominantly been a stay at home mom over the past 20 years and returned to school about three years ago:) Good luck to you! It sounds like your are well on your way!
Hey guys! I contacted OHSU and asked about invites for interviews etc. Here is what I learned. I was told my GPA came in SIGNIFICANTLY lower than what it was according to my prerequisite sheet I completed and added to the Nursing CAS application (which was a 3.56). I had completed 27 (I had A&P 1, WR121, and MTH95 done also) of the 45 credits needed specifically for OHSU after Fall term. After this last term I had completed 39 but they only look at the classes you have taken after Fall term, anyway, I was lead to believe those who had more of the prereq's done would receive more points towards their application and those who had less would lose a little. I was OK with this as I had several other factors included in my application I felt still made me very competitive. I was so confused by my low GPA so I called admissions and spoke to someone there. She told me because I hadn't completed the 45 prerequisite credits, they actually used classes from my transcripts to get me up to 45 and then they calculated my GPA. I was very surprised by this. I had no idea if the 45 credits weren't finished they would be filled in using classes you never intended to use. I knew they needed to be completed before matriculation but I was never told they needed to be done before you apply. Also, I know you needed 30 college credits in general before you could apply, I have 57 (many classes I took years ago that aren't relevant towards the nursing degree). Was anyone else aware of this? I feel so disappointed and had I known this information I would not have applied this year. OHSU is truly my dream and my hopes were so high. I will most definitely apply next year, by then I will have all the 45 credits completed, but it sure feels crummy that this year applying was all in vain.
Thanks MagicShell. I am pretty sure I was not invited to interview due to the fact that I had not completed three of the prerequisite courses prior to winter term. However, now that I have every completed those last three courses my total prereq GPA that I will submit to OHSU next year is 3.93 and actually, after I take technical writing, the prereq GPA will be 4.0 as I believe I can substitute tech writing for writing 121 which I received a B in.
I totally understand where I was lacking this year and I am excited to apply with such a strong application next year. Having this extra year will actually be kind of nice because I will be able to complete all of my non nursing coursework prior to being admitted into the program. So I wont have to pick up extra classes during the year or the summer.
This isnt the situation that I would have wanted but, I will make the best of it and eventually reach my goal. In the grand scheme of things this is only a minor set back.

I got an email for an interview on April 10th at the Portland campus. Anyone know what to expect from the interview? I'm so excited, yet so nervous for it!!
