OHSU BSN Fall 2017

Published

Hi all I just thought I would start this, since there doesn't appear to be anything started for the Fall 2017 3 year BSN at OHSU. Feel free to update as you get emails regarding interviews, acceptances, etc. This week it looks like everyone should be hopefully getting a email hearing something if they are chosen for a interview. I wonder if due to the lack of any posts for the Fall 2017 that means that competition isn't as fierce as in prior cycles... this is probably not the case. But it seems like the cohort has been alot more quite then in the past.

@ 61005 I work as an ER Tech in a small local hospital. We see approximatley 50 patients a day, but some days more, some days less. At most we have 4 nurses and 2 Techs on at once, with only one doctor. During the night shift we run with a max of 7 people in the entire hospital. We are an efficient well oiled machine. My ultimate goal is to be an ER nurse in my hospital. Its my dream home. It took me 4 years to get in as a Tech and I couldn't be happier right now.

As for school, I'll go where ever I am accepted. Although OHSU has a great program and there are pros to going for it, Chemeketa's program has too many benefits for me to turn it down. I get a tuition discount with my current employer, a significant amount of tuition reimbursement and it is almost guaranteed to get at least one scholarship a year from Chemeketa as a nursing student. Along with that I can start work a full year earlier and finish the bachelors portion while working. It may not be appealing to do school and work at the same time but it would only be for a year so. And were talking the difference of making nothing for that year to making 80k. Nursing is not all about the money but money sure has its perks. Like Disneyland.

I have a question for everyone out here looking to get into the healthcare field. Has anyone heard anything about respiratory therapy (RT)? I've heard several really good things about the program and the profession but have also heard a few random negative things. Just like anything there are always going to be pros/cons but wanted to see if any of you had some good information to pass on. Here in the Vancouver/Portland area the only school that offers it is MHCC and I applied this last application period. They only take 20 students into the yearly cohort that starts every fall. I searched some of the area hospitals job boards and it seems that there are several positions open for RT's and the pay is pretty comparative to that of a RN (just slightly less). But those facts aside the thought of the role of an RT really intrigues me. TIA for any info!

P.S. Those of you who were waiting to here back from OHSU yesterday or today have you heard anything? Fingers crossed for you guys!

OIT in Klamath falls has an RT program that seems fairly easy to get into. I've heard great things about the program.

Me too, this is my last app/interview and the main one I wanted all along- at age 52, I just don't think I can apply again next time, so....here's hoping hoping hoping hoping... Of course, I said that last yr too, but 52 feels so different than 51. Also, I already have the nurse feet...so I'd like to have the career to go with them!

And I need one "do-over" where interviews are concerned....I was ready for the do-over as soon as I walked out the door and thought of everything I wanted to say in that one.

Woohoo!!! When was your interview?

I got into LaGrande as well! See you in the fall!!

I'm a nursing student. I went to print something and started opening the door. Looked up and saw every one there for their essays!
