Chemeketa 2018
FYI we had quite a few people who refused to be on Facebook during our first term last year. They ended up making a Facebook just for school. A lot of important info gets shared through there....ie questions to teachers regarding content, up coming tests, assignments, deadlines, etc. many teachers will ask students to post to the Facebook.

Technically no they cannot consent if they are in a non-violent restraint. Because obviously they are not of sound mind, if they were they would not need a non-violent restraint. Technically if the POA is not available for consent it takes 2 medical providers to document that the intervention is necessary for the patient's well being.

It is hard to find new instructors. It requires a masters in nursing and it's pays less than say a hospital.

My guess as to why it's taking a lot longer this year.....They have an instructor retiring this year and the application process to replace that teacher just closed as of April 28 per the employment section of their website. Hiring another teacher is the difference between accepting 48 vs 40 students into the program because legally each clinical instructor can only have 8 students per clinical site.

There are a few of us working that I know of. I work 24 hours per week on Friday and Saturday nights, which can be tricky during clinical's on Fridays. It's very demanding if you work and do the program, you have to have strict discipline and schedule down. It's working for me, but I also have a lot of experience in health care so some of the stuff we cover is not completely new to me. I feel full time work would definitely be out of the question. I've seen people fail out of the program due to trying to do both. Not that it couldn't be done, but I know if I worked full time I would not be doing well at all.

The program is good. Extremely fast paced. The first term was just trying to figure out the flow, the second term was insane. It wasn't until about week 8 or 9 that I finally felt like I could breath a little bit. It comes down to time management with the sometimes 13 chapters a week to read, studying and clinicals all in the mix. This term I've heard from instructors that it is better than last term in the views of time management. The first week of this term is not nearly as insane as last term so I am excited about that. My favorite and least favorite part about the program are the same thing I think, the pace. It is extremely demanding and if you expect to have a life and be in nursing school, you will not succeed essentially. Your life becomes nursing school, and it sucks. I miss my kids, my family, my friends. But the amazing part is the pace makes it all fly by, and I am 4 terms away from taking the NCLEX and being a nurse. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. My kids miss me, but I've promised them Disney Land after this is all over....really its more for me than them. I've had some extremely hard personal stuff come up last term. I kept the instructors very informed and they have been absolutely amazing in making sure that I succeed and that I was able to deal with my personal issues. Schedule wise, it varies by term. First term you are in class or skills lab every of the term almost. There are only 4 days of clinical. Exams occur in weeks 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and the final is week 11. Grading is primarily based on the exams. You will not do well on them if you do not do the readings. Second term we had most Wednesdays off, but lecture days were slightly longer and there are several 6ish weeks of clinical, 2 days each week. Along with that there are other side projects that count as clinical time. Second term was the hardest so far in terms of material covered and the amount of information to retain and study. I think everyone in the program could agree with that. This term, doesn't look as scary as last term, but clinical starts right away next week and goes through beginning of June. But there is a light at the end of this crazy tunnel, and it is super exciting.

I would honestly get it done now and not try to take classes between the 1st and 2nd year of the program during the summer. I am in the program, and if you have kids/family you want that summer time to refresh yourself. The time demands of nursing school are no joke! Each term is approximately 10 credits, but its easily 15 worth of work. The burn out is real. Not taking classes during the summer between nursing school years was the one thing I have promised my family because of how much I have to essentially neglect them. Nursing school is the hardest, but most rewarding thing I have ever done. It will make you humble and severely appreciate getting a B.

I think they went though 13 out of 28 alternates. A friend of mine was #21 and made it to #8 by the time school started. I expect only 40 students will be admitted again.

Yeah the grade make the difference, but honestly that is a really good score. Make sure that if you retake it and if you score lower the higher score still counts. The program is good. Super fast paced. The hardest schooling I've done by far. I would go back to A&P anyday! It is tough and really helps if you keep all that A&P fresh in your brain to help with processes, especially the RAAS kidney system...ridiculously intertwined with everything and medications! The first term wasn't so bad. Second term has been super intense! There is no skipping readings at all! Tests every two weeks that count as the majority of your grade. Have to pass the term with 75% or higher to stay in the program. Good luck, all the hard work will be worth it. It's nice to start to see a light at the end of the tunnel!

I'm currently in the nursing program and from last year's scores you essentially need a 80 or higher to get into the program due to competition. 85 or higher will guarantee you a spot pretty much.

I am on the Facebook, I'm the one that posted about possibly getting an updated schedule to plan life. They just confirmed my immunization packet was complete. Not sure if they do that for everyone, I personally asked for confirmation because I had several pieces of paper for proof of positive tigers and different immunizations over the years.

Oh man! I had my second TB test done this week and it was due to be read between yesterday afternoon and this coming afternoon. I just get them done during my normal work hours so I don't forget and I forgot!!! I got off work at 0100, at 0200 I saw a picture of a syringe on FB and was like oh crap! Luckily I live 5 minutes from work and quick ran in to get it read! Phew! I did not want to have to do another test! Just have to get one MMR vaccine and I'm gold for the cpr/ vaccine portion of the requirements!

Although you hold your BLS card you do have to have it recerted after after the June 15 date. I talked to Connie to make sure and understood. Essentially they want to make sure everyone's BLS is good for the full 2 years of school.

Yeah it needs to be read 48-72 hours after being administered. I get mine done at work so I get them done on Mondays and read on Wednesday's.
