Hi all I just thought I would start this, since there doesn't appear to be anything started for the Fall 2017 3 year BSN at OHSU. Feel free to update as you get emails regarding interviews, acceptances, etc. This week it looks like everyone should be hopefully getting a email hearing something if they are chosen for a interview. I wonder if due to the lack of any posts for the Fall 2017 that means that competition isn't as fierce as in prior cycles... this is probably not the case. But it seems like the cohort has been alot more quite then in the past.
@maggiefrancisI have a a few questions about Monmouth
OHSU campus. I was recently accepted and wanted to see if you could tell me about first terms schedule? And how that looked? Do we start clincals first term? Also did you work at all first year? Lastly I know other programs like Chemeketa you need a 75% to pass is that the same for OHSU?
Hi! Congrats on your acceptance :)! So, I think they may be changing the schedule but last year when I first entered, our first term we only had one class and yes we started clinicals that first term as well. There was a lot of "firsts" with getting used to OHSU's online portal, looking up our schedule, when assignments were due, etc but it wasn't that bad. In fact, I also took another class from WOU that time for some of my upper division non-nursing courses. Most people found it easy to work that term part time. However, our winter and current Spring term we have pathophysiology and pharmacology too so it's not very wise to work these terms if you can avoid it. They may be changing the schedule though. My advice would be don't work during whatever term you take path and pharm . You only need 70% to pass;)
Thank you! And thanks for being so responsive! Okay and when did you find out class times and days? Was it a few weeks before school started?? Yes I heard pharm and patho are the tough classes! How are the instructors? Do you find them helpful and easy to talk to? I'm a waitress so I was thinking of only working one day on the weekend for a 4 hr shift throughout the program. Oh okay! I feel like a 70% would be doable! Any more tips before starting? Any supplies or books
you found helpful that weren't required?
I guess one 4 hour shift per week wouldn't be so bad. Path and pharm aren't as insane as you may think, it's a lot like A and P. There is one professor for those classes and she's awesome ! Very helpful! The "hard" classes are the theory ones like Acute I theory because it's NCLEX style questions, no study guide so you have to kinda read every chapter and make your own notes and everyone's favorite... select all that apply questions!
But don't freak out, if you made it this far, you have what it takes to make it through the rest :) As for helpful things, I bought a bag to use for clinicals which I found super helpful and please get scrub bottoms with lots of big pockets... you'll need them to put your stethoscope and bp cuff in because wearing your stethoscope around your neck is discouraged. Also, please remember as you go in that these tests are very much like NCLEX style questions, so in some classes it will be super easy to get an A, but in others it may not be. Don't get discouraged if you get less of a grade than what you wanted... GPA doesn't determine the qualities of a good nurse, compassion, integrity, and perseverance in the midst of hardship do :)
Do you have study guides for the other classes? Or is it still make your own notes for every class? Yes I heard that's how nursing school exams are, which makes sense! Good to know about scrubs bottoms with lots of pockets! Would you say two sets of scrubs would work fine? And are tests every week or every other week? Yes I agree a grade does not determine a person! Also I have a MAC would that work? I read earlier in the thread people had problems with theirs. Just curious on your class and if other students use them.
No study guides for any classes but at least other classes test you off the power points Acute theory doesn't. Two sets work great for your first year. Test times vary but generally we have 2-3 big tests per class per term and with path and pharm we have small weekly quizzes. Macs work perfectly!
Hi everyone, I'm currently applying to OHSU's ABSN program for 2019-2020. I was hoping that some of you who were accepted last year could tell me:
What were the questions you answered during your interview?
What was the proctored essay question?
Thanks and congrats! Hope school is going well :)
