OHSU BSN 2016 Applicants

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Hey everyone! I am applying for OHSU BSN monmouth program this coming Fall for the 2016 school year! I would love to get a thread started :) It was so helpful last year! I will also be applying for Chemeketa this year.

Hope to hear from you all soon!

Hey gere, so the rank in the application is referring to your choice of program. So if you applied to more than one program, your preferred would be rank #1 and your back-up would be number 2 and so on. At least I believe that's what it means. I hope this helps.

Yep, looks like it's a way for the declared programs to see if they were your first choice or not. I noticed it showed up after my app was verified and was wondering if it was some sort of ranking system for applicant qualifications or something.

Has anybody received any receipt or confirmation from OHSU that their application had been received? A coworker told me her friend said she got a message from admissions saying her application was received and to wait for April 1st to see if she made it to "round 2."

Beyond emails I've initiated, I haven't gotten anything from OHSU -- I did get an email saying my transcripts and application was verified by NursingCAS, but that was it.

I emailed ohsu just to make sure they received my application and they got back to me that they did. Said if they needed anything else they'd let me know. But other than emailing them myself, I didn't receive notification. It's possible that each campus may do things differently too, so maybe that campus emailed your friend, but not every campus will send out notification emails. Do you know which campus your friend applied to?

I'll ask what campus she applied to tonight. The e-mail I got from OHSU said:

"Thank you for contacting the OHSU School of Nursing. Your application has been received and is complete. We are in the process of reviewing applications now and will let you know if we need any further information.

I hope this information is of help."

Mine was quite similar. Good luck!

Anyone else apply to Ashlands accelerated BSN program? I know less people apply to the Ashland campus, which is why I chose it. I'm starting to get super nervous as I wait to hear if I get an interview or don't hear anything at all.

I'm more nervous because the more I read, the more it seems like it is purely based off GPA which bums me out. I got my Bachelors of Science in Human Biology at UCSD and a typical quarter for me was filled with upper division coursework like physics, ochem and pharmacology so I hope they take that into account when evaluating my application. I have also had multiple years of hands one patient experience in both office and hospital settings. I guess we'll find out if I am purely just a GPA or if I'm evaluated based on my other accomplishments.

I'm applying to the BSN program so I'm not sure if they've started letting applicants know about interviews for the ABSN program yet. Let us know when you hear something though. Good luck!

I applied to the Ashland campus, but not for their accelerated program. I'm in White City and was considering applying to Klamath as it traditionally had a higher chance of getting accepted, but I decided that with how this winter was I wasn't sure I wanted to risk having to drive the 140 in the snow for three years, combined with the fact that Klamath had almost the same amount of applicants as Ashland did last year.

I took microbiology with some people accepted in the ABSN program at Ashland last year. My lab partner was one of them, and she had a bachelor's in psychology -- if I remember her GPA wasn't that great, around a 3.5ish or so. From what I hear, OHSU in general doesn't accept candidates solely on GPA -- they like to see well rounded students that exhibit traits in succeeding towards their mission of "providing leadership in nursing and health care through thoughtful innovation in healing, teaching and discovery."

That's definitely relieving to hear. I wish the accelerated BSN program had more of a point system like other BSN programs. Would make it a little easier to understand what they are looking for. Overall I feel like I am a "well rounded" applicant. I have volunteered at health fairs and hospitals, as well as have two years experience as a physical therapy aide, 1 year experience as a CNA on a medical unit and now starting to work as a CNA in the PACU/PICU. I also have a pretty strong science background and most of the pre-requisite were required in my major.

I guess all I can do is sit, wait and keep my fingers crossed!

I'm pretty certain the BSN program does have a point system like other OCNE point systems -- all OCNE programs follow a similar scale for base points, but each institution has their own discretionary points. The thing about OHSU is, unlike most of the other OCNE schools, they don't advertise what those discretionary points are, or how much they are worth!

Yes, but they don't use the point system for the ABSN program applicants. I went to two info sessions in the summer/fall, and they were very clear that for the first round (choosing who to invite to interviews) they go solely off of cumulative GPA. They said that they have found that the students who are the most successful in the program are the ones with the highest undergrad GPAs. I know that's super frustrating for some applicants, and I understand why. But at least at the interview you get a chance to talk about your other attributes (I'm assuming!).

Yah, thats what I saw too. That interview invites were based purely off GPA (which is frustrating). I'm just hoping for the opportunity to interview and would be upset if I wasn't offered a chance.

Did they happen to mention how many interviews they usually granted? I saw that in 2014, the Ashland campus had 76 applicants and 16 spots. I wonder what percentage were offered interviews?
