OHSU BSN 2016 Applicants

Published

Hey everyone! I am applying for OHSU BSN monmouth program this coming Fall for the 2016 school year! I would love to get a thread started :) It was so helpful last year! I will also be applying for Chemeketa this year.

Hope to hear from you all soon!

I am so sorry to worry you guys, I should have been more clear! I received confirmation that they received my application for the accelerated program. The deadline for the accelerated program was yesterday, so I'm assuming it was an automatic send to all applicants today. They will probably do the same thing after the deadline for the regular 3 year BSN.

Okay thanks! I do not. I took all of my prerequisites at Lane Community College, and am also applying to their nursing program. I took PHL 205, which is Contemporary Moral Issues, and is a social science class at Lane. Which is the class I sent the email about.

I took PSY 215, but I only had to take PSY 201. I have the rest of the prerequisites done except for the other two credits for the social science section. I will just have to wait and see what they say. :)

Good luck! From what I can find philosophy is classified as a humanities class versus a social science. Do you have history or polisci or anything like that if it isn't counted towards social science?

Even if it isn't, you'd still have all the other prereqs required to apply, so as long as you complete the rest of them by fall 2016 you'd be good to start with the 2016 cohort.

Thank you. This specific class philosophy is listed under humanities, social science, and cultural literacy for Lane, and so it was great for my application there since I could use it for two out of the three different categories. However, I unfortunately did not think about it being counted as a social science class for the other schools I am applying to.

They have business classes listed under what they consider social science. I took a college now business class when I was in high school called "MS Word for Buisness", but was told by a registrar at OHSU that it does not count.

I am currently taking an anthropology class right now, so if I get accepted, I will have it by Fall 2016. I think I have a pretty competitive application besides missing those two credits. At this point, I can only do the best I can with what I have, and there is no point of me worrying about things I cannot change. I just hope they get back to me soon. :)

Anthropology will definitely count towards social sciences. The downside to not having "all your credits" is the way that applications are scored per OCNE guidelines; having all of your prereqs complete the fall before the app deadline (this previous quarter) gets you 5 points, while having 37 or more prereq credits complete gets you three. You can make up for it by having other supplemental points like having micro and chem complete.

I have healthcare experience, as well as having taken a chemistry class, and microbiology, which will help. Thank you for your help, and best of luck to you!

Sounds solid. You said you were applying to Lane as well, so you'll get the points for their application as well as any discretionary points they have, which by a powerpoint I found trying to find if they considered philosophy a social science (https://www.lanecc.edu/sites/default/files/hp/nursing/nursing_program_advisingfall14.pdf) are as follows:

Additional Application Points will be awarded for:

The following courses - WR 123, BI 234, the HumanRelations, Social Science, Medical Terminology and theDiversity course.

 The highest level of education completed- associate, bachelors, or master's/PhD.

 Living in Lane County

 Credits completed at Lane

 RN Program – OSBN - LPN or CNA active status

So, even if you lost potential points for that one class, you're still competitive by OHSU standards, and even more so at Lane.

Thank you, gere7404! I already ordered all of my transcripts and I received notification that CAS has received 2/3 transcripts so far. I also entered in all of my coursework...took a few hours but I got it done!

You can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think I can use my volunteer experience since it's less than 400 hours. At least from what I can tell I don't think I can use it as documented health care experience.

Remember, "exhibiting understanding and value for working with diverse and underrepresented communities" is an admission factor to the program. Although you might not get additional discretionary points for less than 400 hours of volunteer work, adding the work you did with the VA under your experience section of your application helps to show that you are active in the community by working with veterans, an underrepresented demographic vulnerable to higher rates of homelessness, addiction, and mental health disorders compared to the general public.

Something I just noticed reviewing my application status, under the portion under Designation Information there is a subsection titled Rank next to the Submission Status. Anybody know what this "Rank" is in reference to?

Hey gere, so the rank in the application is referring to your choice of program. So if you applied to more than one program, your preferred would be rank #1 and your back-up would be number 2 and so on. At least I believe that's what it means. I hope this helps.

Well I finished my application and all transcripts have been received! I submitted everything yesterday so now it's time to try and patiently wait...it that's even possible, haha.

One thing I still need to do is my FAFSA and scholarship applications!
