OHSU ABSN 2018-2019

Published

Hey all!

Now that the application deadline has passed, I feel comfortable finally starting a post. Just curious to hear who else applied to this program. It's fascinating to me to hear about people's different experiences, stats, expectations, etc. I'm also wondering what other programs people might've applied to? I got my submission in for the Portland ABSN to FNP/DNP program as well.

Best of luck to everyone! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and perspectives.

Did the Ashland campus applicants also interview at the Portland campus?

I agree with you Bansn, I just read her response and noticed the great letters of references.

It was at SOU in Ashland!

It was actually really stressful because it doesn't say until like the third line that you got in! Its a really short email, they'll be sending out letters with more information. It basically said thank you for submitting your application, the admissions committee is pleased to admit you, we'll be sending out letters this week. The subject line was just something like "Nursing application decision" so it gives no indication until you read the entire email! Like I said, good luck

Man, that's really scary. I feel like I've been having a consistent low level heart attack all day. I REALLY hope they email Portlanders tomorrow.

I was also confused there.

I know I feel like the subject line could have been more promising! Just "Nursing Application Decision" is so formal and I felt like it meant it was going to be a rejection. I'm sure Portlanders will hear soon, and don't stress out! I'm really hoping for good news for everyone. Honestly just getting an interview is such an accomplishment :)

Did you hesitate at all to open it with such a formal headline? I feel like that's going to be another hard part - willing myself to open it. I'm trying really hard to keep my cool. I honestly think even if I got rejected, just knowing would be better than being in limbo at this point. I can work off that and plan on what to do next from that. They told me last week it'd be at the beginning of this week, which is why it's slightly frustrating. I know it has to be soon though.

I opened it immediately. I would rather know than not know. I applied to the BSN here at the U of A (where I'm finishing up my undergrad) and got rejected. Honestly, my overall perception of nursing programs are that they are extremely competitive and that there just aren't enough teachers to keep up with the applicants and demand. I think for many programs luck is a big component. It sucks not getting in and I was really crushed/felt extremely lost when I didn't get in at U of A, but there will always be a step forward. For everyone who doesn't get in, apply again next year and explore your options! I'm sure you will hear tomorrow since it seems like Ashland is already informing applicants. I'll be thinking good thoughts for you!

I feel you with the at least knowing part, then there would be some piece of mind with either accepting that the school just wasn`t the right fit/what they were looking for in their ridiculously high standards and applicant diversity. I`m hoping to be waitlisted at least... or best case scenario, accepted, but I feel like you never know with schools like this.

I also applied to Linfield, which I feel really good about getting in and would feel really surprised if i didn`t, but paying for that school would be a HUGE barrier to potentially overcome. Thats an additional big draw to OHSU, price being more do-able. Linfield isn`t really upfront about financial assistance for the accelerated program and people who have already graduated. Loans arent worth it.

University of Arkansas or Arizona?

University of Arizona! Sorry didn't make that clear...there are a lot of U of A's out there haha.

For what it's worth, I've heard Linfield is actually way better about financial aid than OHSU and it ends up being a pretty similar cost for a lot of people.

Well goodness I definitly hope so! Because it would be very unfortunate to have to turn down admissions due to finances!
