Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

How do they handle the billing/payment when you start the program? I'll be waiting for funds also.

Where I work, if you a NON-PRN employee, the hospital will reimburse you based on your FTE status. The make you pay first. Then once you get your grade (passing), they will deposit the money into your account. Don't have any coworkers receiving financial aid, so I'm not too sure how that works.

Im reading now. Planning on taking quiz later today. Also have a quiz to take in my other class. Have you started your leadership paper?

I haven't started my paper or taken the quiz, we had a storm and I had no internet for a week so I am playing catchup:)

So tell me, in this program are there deadlines per week or do you pace yourself and just get it completed within the 5 week time frame?

You have weekly deadlines. However some assignments may carry over for 2 to 3 weeks. In all of my classes so far you have to post your discussion response by Friday (11:59pm), and respond to 2 classmates by Sunday (11:59pm). All assignments are typically due of Sunday by 11:59pm. However for week 5, the last assignments are typically due my 8am Sat.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse but it's great to learn about what to expect before I get started...thank you for your time! Just wondering if current students feel that 2 concurrent nursing classes are reasonable to do if you can devote 2-3 hrs most days to school work? Are the discussion questions in an informal format such as this or are they research based with citations, etc? Thanks again!

Some days you will devote more, some days less. Your discussion post needs to be a scholarly post with apa reference/s. Most classes your response to 2 peers needs to be scholary, but you don't need to site a reference. Only in your main post. You're obviously a planner. Nothing wrong with that.

The only thing I have done on my leadership paper - is - the title page is typed! Trying to get through all the reading so I can actually write it. Need to do week 3 case study also - I don't know if all case studies are the same - but this week's nurse is a real steamroller!
