Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

That's strange...I can select Summer and then right below it is Fall.

This is all I have

1. Select classes to add

To select classes for another term, select the term and click Change. When you are satisfied with your class selections, proceed to step 2 of 3.

I have no idea what I need. Got bumped back to the september start due to incomplete application. They said I'll hear from them the first week in August.....so I'm 100% in the dark lol.

it seems that no one who's recently been admitted (june or july) has yet received a completed dars report.

so a question for those who've been in the ou program for while:

how long after admittance did you have to wait for your dars?

and a couple of follow-ups:

was your dars accurate?

if not, can you comment on the appeals process?

If my experience is any indicator, you can expect to get an admittance notification soon after the start of the July session (I just heard from OU earlier this week after getting bumped from June to July and am just extrapolating forward). Your notification will be an e-mail with some info on how to access your DARS and an attachment with other information the program. The admittance e-mail also states that you will get a future e-mail when your DARS is updated but does not give any indication of when this is. I just posted on this and so will hopefully hear back from some OU students on this timeline.

The attachment gives some info on how to register for class and access your e-mail account. I've read elsewhere that from this point on, all communication from OU will be through your school e-mail account.

The OU process reminds me a lot of what being in Army basic training is like: You rush at top speed from one thing to another, only to be told when you get there to stand at parade rest and cool your heels. This is derisively known by every recruit as "Hurry up and wait" and could be OU's motto.

I don't like the hurry up and wait game either. I like to be completely prepared, books ready, etc. but it's IMPOSSIBLE this way. In addition I need to apply for tuition reimbursement between 2 months and 2 weeks before start of the class. Chuckster you must be thrilled to be getting started!!!

I must have been lucky enough to get into the new registration system. I sent my application in on June 13th and received an email notice that it was received, along with one of my two transcripts, on June 21st.

I know there's been several requests for books. I found a book list for summer & fall classes, not sure if anyone posted it, here it is:

While that seems to be somewhat quicker than has been the case in the recent past, my advice is to keep a close eye on the process, especially since one of your transcripts is still outstanding.

My timeline - as well as that of several others that have posted here - was considerably longer:

22 Feb - application sent to OU

18 Mar - confirmation that the last of my transcripts was sent to OU

12 Apr - e-mail from OU saying that I did not supply a transcript (this turned out to be an error - one of my transcripts incorrect call out the wrong campus of the UNC campus I attended - OU had the transcript from the one I actually went to)

14 Apr - registrar at UNC branch campus (the one I did not attend) confirms sending a letter to that effect to the OU admissions office

10 May - e-mail from OU verifying that they received everything, were processing the application and that they "plan to complete processing summer applications prior to the beginning of the summer start you requested."

14 Jun - e-mail from OU stating "Due to a recent system change within Ohio University, we were unable to process as many applicants as anticipated for the June 20th start date. Consequently, your application will be moved to the July 25th start date within the summer term"

22 Jun - e-mail confirming admission to OU for the start of the second summer session received

I sincerely hope that process has smoothed out a lot for future students.

Well, I emailed the registrar - and they kindly added the ability for me to register for fall quarter - so I am registered! :)

Anyone know any other place to take the stats class online?? It doesnt seem to be offered in the fall - Have no idea when in winter it will be offered (online completion)

Thanks for any help-

Chuckster,

Can I ask you a couple of questions?

1. Where are you going to take those courses which are not offered online, such as: Elemetary Microbiology (BIOS 201), Introduction to Sociology (SOC 101), and Princles of Chemistry I (CHEM 121)?

2. What are you going to do with the courses that are involved with clinical parts?

I'm foreigned educated and I think I may have to take more courses than all of you guys. I just registered NRSE 300 which starts on July 25th. I got my book already but do not know where to start. Also, I applied UOW and still waiting for the admission letter, but the clinical that UOW requires is killing me if I'm accepted into their program. UTA requires me to take TSI because I graduated from other countries. SIGH....... so hard for me! At least, English is your first language. For me, sometimes I still have to use my dictionary to figure out what this or that means......

Any answers are greatly appreciated!

SOC 101 IS online

Really? Why does the course list I printed from OU's website shows SOC 101 is not available onle? If OU does offer it online, then I won't have to worry about this one but other courses.
