Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.
I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.
As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.
As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.
Looking at registering for fall already - how much work is the Elem Stat class?? I would really love to take it with other classes - anyone still have the syllabus and book ???Also - do you get the option to test out of the Health Appraisal after it starts??? Thanks
Hey...Isn't it crazy how we are already registering for the Fall. I'm going to take Strategic Planning and Junior English (Fall 1) and Health Interventions and Junior English (Fall 2).
Elem stats is A TON OF WORK!!! I mean, you eat, sleep, breathe it for 5wks. But, "my instructor" gave us the syllabus in advance, so I got a head start. I also opted out of Appraisal. Before the class starts the instructor basically sends out a general email stating that you can take a 100 question test in 2hrs to opt out. Doesn't tell you want to study, just basically any nursing assessment book. I studied for a week, and took it. My test had a TON of questions in ENT. I'm a pediatric onc nurse, so I didn't even really part a lot of attention to that. Needless to say, I got a 80 (after a 5pt. curve) and leaped for joy. I would have died taking that class with stats.
I double up on my classes and have done extremely well in the program thus far. I would however suggest to either take stats solo, or don't fall behind. 10 modules in 5wks is no joke.
PM me if you have any detailed questions.
hi deltaroxxy2,I just signed up for research 405, it looks like its going to be a busy 5wks, the syllabus is full with things to submit every wk. Hopefully I will be fine. Fill me in on what you think about it.
I am taking it with music. Oh the torture. My goal is to be done w/the assignments and my discussion post by Wed of each week. Then Wed-Sat, I focus on Music. Will take the weekly quizzes on Sat. I like that they are giving up a reference sheet for the quizzes. Do you read a lot? I find this topic to be a bit boring, so reading the text is going to be a challenge.
Looking forward to communicating with you.

I just found this site, so I am not allowed to pm yet - and I don't know how to email ya! :) Looking at fall classes - they don't seem to be offering the stats class - What book do they use? I would like to check it out asap so I can decide when to take it :)
Have you been able to register for fall yet ? I can't figure it out, but I know people have registered so.......
Thanks
I have 2 questions for deltaroxy and stepharm....do you work full time and take 2 classes at a time?? Why aren't you taking all the nursing stuff first??? Just curious....planning to start in Sept.
I work part-time. Some classes (ex. NRSE Research) you can't take until you have had Stats. You can however take it with stats. And based upon the rotation of the classes, I've mapped it out for when I should take my elective classes. What electives do you need?
YES - I am working full time, plus I have 12 kids and a hubby :) I still do not have my DARS ready so I am taking things that I know I have to have!
My advisor (before the one I currently have) emailed me the classes needed prior to receiving my DARS. And I initially found the DARS to look so confusing, I was glad that she did that. My current advisor is BEYOND NON-HELPFUL. I don't even bother using her.

STATS is offered every term. So it's there (Psy 120). But it appears to be full. It does fill up FAST. I have registered for the Fall. Just go to the Ohio.edu/rntobsn....Then click on academic outreach....Then click on Fall registering....Look at what you want to take and write down course number....Then on the top of the page click on register for classes link.... Here is where it will lead you: http://www.ohio.edu/registrar/info/redirects/webregistration.html then click here: https://my.ohio.edu/portal/uPortal/render.userLayoutRootNode.uP then plug in your info. The MAIN area you need is here:
https://sis.ohio.edu/psp/csprd/EMPLOYEE/HRMS/?cmd=logout
For stats just rent your book from ecampus.com or bookrenter.com
Here is the stat books you'll need:
Utts, Seeing Through Statistics ,3rd edition, Brooks/Cole Publishing Company, a division of Thompson Learning, 2005 ISBN-10: 0-534-39402-7ISBN-13: 978-0-534- 39402-8
Howell, David C. Fundamental Statistics (for the Behavioral Sciences), 6th edition, Wadsworth, Cengage Learning, 2008 ISBN-10 0-495-09900-7
ISBN-13 978-0-495-09900-0 **The Howell book has recently moved to a 7th edition--this works as well**
I have tried to register - it says to change terms click term and select - I can't see a place to change to the fall quarter - if I just put in the number it says not available this quarter - etc....
I also only see 16 classes available for fall quarter through the link on rntobsn. Oh - I am online completion not outreach - I see we have different class schedules
From this link:
https://my.ohio.edu/portal/uPortal/r...outRootNode.uP
Put in your information....When you get to My OHIO...Click on the ACADEMICS tab....Then click on MY OHIO STUDENT CENTER...At the very top....
Once there click on ENROLL....Then in the TERM you will see Summer and Fall. Click on Fall...

There is a post somewhere on this thread - maybe by deltaroxy about testing out of Health Assessment.
