Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

I have been beating my way through this process since January. I am actually registered for classes that start TODAY - and I know nothing about what is happening!!!!!! Ridiculous process - no one answers the phone, etc...

Email aid my dars would be up yesterday - NOPE

We shall see how it goes!

stepharm - It appears you applied in Jan and were accepted for the 20 Jun start. Those of us who applied in Feb seem to have been deferred to July. QED: The lead time for the acceptance process at OU is 6 months!

Assume you are taking NRSE 300? If so, when you get your syllabus, would you mind sharing that? There's a mini-syllabus on the OU website but if does not have much useful info. A PM would be great but I can also provide my psnl e-mail if that's better. Figure I may as well try to get ahead of the curve since there's more than a month until the next session.

I think that there's a lot of us who feel your pain. Except for one phone call with a nursing program advisor back in Feb, I have not reached anyone by phone who could (or would) provide both useful and reliable information.

Anyone want to start a betting pool for when those of us who were deferred to July will hear back from OU? My bet is 18 July for acceptance with the DARS not available until after Labor Day.

Ouch - I guess I am one of the lucky few that have gotten answers when I asked. I started Nursing 300 - yesterday actually :D, the syllabus was posted in Epic. Have to say I am going to like Epic - easy to use, navigate, etc. Hope I don't mess up when I go to submit assignments!! Your DARS will not be posted and ready for you to review until after you have passed the transitions class. Why would they waste the time if you don't pass the first class? And - you can find a copy of your accepted transfer credits on your MyOhio. HTH.

hi deltaroxxy2,

I just signed up for research 405, it looks like its going to be a busy 5wks, the syllabus is full with things to submit every wk. Hopefully I will be fine. Fill me in on what you think about it.

For those having enrollment problems, please try to be patient. They just changed to a new system and it has gliches that need ironing out. I applied personally in october 2010, and was enrolled by feb. They have to review the transcipts prior to accepting a student which I totally understand. Once enrolled, signing up for classes is a breeze. The instructors respond promptly, they are lenient if you let them know in advance why your assign. will be late, and they don't deduct points for that. They will deduct though if you don't communicate with them.

Specializes in nursing.

This process makes those waiting a nervous wreck. How can we plan our lives like this knowing we may be pushed back several months??? I'v spoken to both Immaculata and Gwynedd Mercy(with 1 phone call) and received paperwork and an application in the mail 2 days later. It's a shame they don't offer online degrees in nursing :-(

Specializes in Long term care.

I started Transitions today and am currently unable to log into my course because I do not have an Epic id and password. I called this a.m. and was told that new students have not been given an id or password yet and possibly by the end of the day this will be resolved. It seems this should be an easy enough thing to fix but its seems to be another obstacle on this OU journey. In a 5 week class everyday is important.

Kelly, hang in there. The instructor understands if there are technical problems. Their new uploaded system must not be that grt8.

I just got an email from OU today saying my application is complete and they have all my transcripts and are reviewing my application. The email also says they are transitioning to a new system that is causing delays. Now it's just hurry up and wait.

Hey you guys... I have a QUESTION :) On the 6th page on the application it says "What is the name of your RN-BSN Academic Outreach Initiative Partner (employer)?" And then it asks for a code.

What is that? Is my employer supposed to be a part of this somehow? I'm confused, sorry :p

I think when the program first started it was originally intended to be just through a partnership with certain employers, so that part of the application is vestigial from that time. Now, it is open to everyone, and the tuition appears to be the same whether you are affiliated with an outreach partner or not. No, your employer does not need to be affiliated with OU you can be an independent student.

How would I even know if it was affiliated? Thanks for responding :)

Also, can I just leave it blank then?
