Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

There is a section on the website under the "outreach" information that lets you look for your employer. I always wondered what the difference was!

Actually if your employer is NOT affiliated, you want to apply for the online BSN completion program, not the outreach!

IF you apply for the outreach they you will have extra paperwork to send to switch over :) (experience talking :)

hey you guys... i have a question :) on the 6th page on the application it says "what is the name of your rn-bsn academic outreach initiative partner (employer)?" and then it asks for a code.

what is that? is my employer supposed to be a part of this somehow? i'm confused, sorry :p

if i remember correctly (it's been nearly 6 months since i filled out the application - hear that ohio university?), there is a specific code number that goes here if you are not part of the academic outreach.

you should have gotten an e-mail from an "enrollment specialist" about this - call the school if you haven't. here's the contact info for mine - though this may not be the same person as the one assigned to you he should be able to direct you.

OK - anyone who is IN 300 right now - or has recently take 300

I am working on the returning to school assignment - WHAT does she mean by Identify/Summarize two conceptual frameworks that Callin uses to address the 5 problems?

Thanks

If you look at the assigned readings page, she directs you to the online OU library where you need to read 2 articles. The one she is talking about is by Callin. Essentially, she is looking at non-traditional students going back to school and using 2 conceptual frameworks to do so. Maslow's Hierarchy and another one called the theory of motivation as arousal.

Thanks - I discovered that a few hours ago when I actually printed the article off and read it LOL - I was looking wayyy to deep and making it difficult :)

I wonder if you are in my section?? How do we know

I think my section number is 1-19-100

This morning, 5 plus months after applying, I received my acceptance e-mail from OU.

I managed to activate my ID and access my DARS report. I hope it's incomplete at this stage and is a work in process because it shows that I need everything - all the Tier I and II requirements. More worrying is that in the "External Degrees" section, it shows my associates and MBA but not my baccalaureate.

The e-mail states that OU will notify you when the DARS is fully updated but my worry is that they're missing an important element (my BA!) right off the bat. Should I contact OU right away or give things some time?

It would really be nice to get my DARS straightened out before enrolling in class.

I would give it time - I am in class right now and my DARS is blank - not even my associates shows :) I have no idea who to contact to check on it, but I am just going to wait a bit more!

you can find a copy of your accepted transfer credits on your MyOhio. HTH.

Well - since I transferred 3 degrees and I have NO transfer credit - I am assuming this isn't updated either :)

Looking at registering for fall already - how much work is the Elem Stat class?? I would really love to take it with other classes - anyone still have the syllabus and book ???

Also - do you get the option to test out of the Health Appraisal after it starts??? Thanks

My transfer report shows all my classes from various universities I have attended but not my nursing classes - guess it is a work in progress. I can't even get to a DARS - just the transfer report on MyOhio....and WOOT!!! Chuckster!!!! Are you starting now or in July??
