Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Updated:   Published

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

40 credits is for your ADN or Diploma is 60 credits. Tier I - and I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong - are the things like Freshman comp, algebra, etc. Tier 2 - that is a requirement for a 300 level english class (junior level). I fulfilled that requirement at OU with business communications. All my tier I stuff was fulfilled prior to OU by classes I took at the community college level and another state university. Not sure what tier Cross cultural perspectives falls under - but I fulfilled that with a cultural anthropology course. Tier 3 is fulfilled by your nursing capstone course - nursing excellence. There are actually no more credits required than there would be for any bachelors degree - seems overwhelming at first but just look at it class by class. There are some here that were required to take 20 classes to meet the OU graduation requirements ... I am sure one of them will chime in. Oh michelemybell ....

classes taken prior to OU count in that semester credit total .. and I have found the OU is quite generous with transfer credits. Good luck -

Ahhhh yes.....the horror of it all! I am down to 18 or so they say....with the change to semesters. The nursing (11) plus stats, junior comp, nutrition, micro (can you say "repeat"?), chemistry, cross cultural, and finally, music.

I am trying to download the epic player to my computer as they recommend i do. However i get to the section where they require the URL username and password and i am not sure which URL to use i tried a few but they were not correct so if anyone knows that would be great. Thanks

The link they gave for it doesn't even work for me, to download it at all. Says the link is not valid. Where are you downloading it from?

I had that problem too, so I googled it, got to this website, and downloaded it from there. Click under "Epic Client Install Directions", then scroll down to the button that says "Download Epic Player"

That one asks for the link? It was in the orientation about downloading it as well, so I wonder if that one will work. I'll have to go and look tonight.

I have finally gotten the URL and username for epic. So for your username you need to place ohio/ followed by your actual username for example

Username: Ohio/jd124356

URL : http://www.epiclms.com/config/default.xml

Password: use your regular epic password
