Someone got a $25K signing bonus at a hospital in OH?!

Surely this can't be true, right?! This was third hand information, but someone just told me a story about selling their house to a new grad nurse in OH who used this supposed $25K signing bonus as a down payment on a house. I was in disbelief, but I thought I'd come check my trusty sources at AN and see if this was a thing.

Here where I live I know there are giving $5K sign on bonuses but I can't believe they would give *that* much.

I received a sign on bonus at my current job. 5k. But I received 2500 after the 1st month of working FT, and the other 2500 at the 6 month mark. If I left before a year of working ft, the contract said I would have to pay it back. I highly doubt any hospital has a 25k sign on.......unless the hourly wage is $8.00/hr! Lol

I saw a hospital in Las Vegas offering a 15k relocation sign on bonus a few weeks ago. It was for NICU

I'd be leery of a hospital offering that much!

i was offered an 8k relocation package to Louisiana (IIRC)... but i decided to work at this understaffed/underpaid (in comparison to other facilities in the region) hospital in southern california, instead. lol...

Well, it's reassuring to hear that signing bonuses still exist in some places. I thought they only had those in North Dakota! I'm still pretty skeptical about the details of this story - I asked her to clarify with her source and get back to me. If there's any new information I will definitely let you all know!

I got a 2500 bonus about 6 years ago when I was starting out at a nursing home in Ohio. I now work in a hospital and haven't heard of anything like that. Good luck!

Maybe it was their significant other's bonus and she was just a new grad? Or maybe she was not a new grad but recently graduated with a MSN and accepted a position such as a CNO but is really experieced?

This is great-Nursing Urban Legends!!

Seriously, though, I just can't believe any hospital would give out that large a bonus. Especially since the Nursing shortage is a myth and Nurses are literally a dime a dozen now.

I know of a hospital in Kentucky that gives a $25k sign on bonus, but not for new grads. I'm not sure but I think it's for ICU only, and they particularly want trauma critical experience. It's a hospital in eastern KY that provides for a large area but there isn't anything to do there so no one wants to move there.

I saw something similar pop up in my area's Facebook nurses network. I am in the Dayton area and it looks like a few hospitals are offering $10-$15k sign on bonuses. BUT its for critical care and you have to have two years experience.
