Am I the only one having trouble getting a response from a prospective places of employment? :uhoh21:
Are there job freezes everywhere? Is this just an "odd" time to graduate? Are new graduate nurses (RN) even considered anymore!???? Am I doing something wrong??
I am becoming so depressed over this. I want to start putting into practice all that I have learned in my two years. It's so frustrating to have so much to offer, and find yourself unable to GIVE. UGH.. this is so very disheartening!

If there is a specific hospital you are interested in, call the VP of Nursing and let them know you have left messages for HR and they have not returned your call. Or if there is a specific FLOOR you are interested in, email or call the floor manager directly. Good luck.

I've found that calling after applying online helps.
Keep calling until you actually get to speak to the
Nurse recruiter.
I wish you the best in your search.

Hi, I'm wondering what do you say to the nurse recruiter after you have applied or emailed your resume online? I'm not sure what's a good opening to say when you're trying to follow up? Any one have suggestions?
Hi, I'm calling about the application I sent regarding the xyz nursing position posted on your website. I applied online and want to confirm it was received and also want to know when contacts will be made for interviews. (once she answers you, take that opportunity to briefly tell her something that differentiates you from other candidates). Okay, thank you for your time. Is contacting you again in a week okay or would 2 weeks be better? (Don't give up and don't be shy, I applied for about 10 jobs...contacted the floor manager directly at 4 different hospitals, also emailing them my resume and finally got one of the managers to contact the HR person on my behalf. That got me an interview...which led to a second and a job offer!) It takes a lot of perserverance. Be bold and don't give up.

The job situation is tough in CT rigt now. As a new grad you may have to start in LTC. Look on CareerBuilder.com and Monster for postings. Hartford Hospital and CCNC are hiring as well as Backuc Hospital in Norwich. I think also Stamford Hospital. As a new grad you will really have to present yourself well, but you should be able to find a position. I know quite a few new RN's who got jobs at Hartford Hospital and St Francis. I don't think St. Francis is still hiring. You can always phone the hospitals and ask to speak to their nurse recruiter, even when they are not running ads. Often hospitals get enough applications that they don't advertise. You will get a position, just keep at it. Good Luck!!!

NocturneNrse,
It is tough finding a job as a new grad RN in CT. Just keep applying and following up. I know it is hard trying to stay positive. I graduated in May 2008. I didn't start looking for job until I passed the boards. I started off as a new grad RN, got terminated while still on orientation, I guess I wasn't progressing fast as needed to be. Believe me it is not fun telling an employer you were terminated from your 1st job as an RN. I really hope the places i've applied to don't hold it aganist me. Sometimes it just really isn't a good fit between an employer and employee.
I so know how you feel about wanting to put your education to use in the field you went to school for.
Please try to hang in there. The advice provided by the other members is so right on.

Davita.com is hiring for dialysis nurses. I see a lot of openings all over for RN's, it's the lpn positions that are limited. Some places prefer if you actually go in and fill out an application instead of emailing/faxing your resume.
Well.. had an interview at Waterbury Hospital , which went very well. Followed up with a phone call one week after - then learned through the newspaper that 160 layoffs are expected by Sept. Haven't heard back from them since the interview.. TOTALLY discouraged now. It's nearing two weeks. This economy is frightening - as I feel it has a HUGE impact on New Grad hires.
Have you tried an adjoining state? RI, NY, MA?
