Ohhhh JOBS.. where are you????

U.S.A. Connecticut

Am I the only one having trouble getting a response from a prospective places of employment? :uhoh21:

Are there job freezes everywhere? Is this just an "odd" time to graduate? Are new graduate nurses (RN) even considered anymore!???? Am I doing something wrong??

I am becoming so depressed over this. :( I want to start putting into practice all that I have learned in my two years. It's so frustrating to have so much to offer, and find yourself unable to GIVE. UGH.. this is so very disheartening!

Scary how this post was started back in Dec'08 and here it is May'09 and i'm still asking myself the same question "OHHH JOBS.. WHERE ARE YOU???????? It truly is heartbreaking when I file each week for unemployment and I have to answer the question to the effect of "have i enrolled in school or training?" Gee I thought getting my degree in nursing and passing my boards was enough, but clearly it is not since i don't have the "magic 1yr experience" under my belt to find a job. Once again how does one get this expereince if no one is hiring new or inexpereinced nurses at this time. It get even worst, when applying for a job and HR asks what have you been doing since your last employer? Really now, is this the type of question HR is posing now when the economy is in the current state that it is in. Trying to find a job in itself is a full-time job.

I guess it is just me, but I'm approaching the end of my rope when it comes to getting up everyday to job hunt. The reality is what it is.:banghead:

I am so sorry to hear that you still havent found a job. What county of Connecticut do you live in that it has became this difficult for you to find a job. I mean ANY job.. have you tried everything possible.. I think a Nursing Home would be a better try for you initially , since you are a new grad. You can build your foundation where it is more stable, chronic, long term care, and get your one year experience on your belt. Then you can move on to a hospital. This way you can build your confidence in the nursing home and not be considedered a "new grad" when entering a hospital job. You know how in nursing school, we were taught any time you change jobs you are a novice, so once you go into a hospital, they will put you on orientation again, so dont worry that you will forget your skills in a nursing home. Just go for it, try to find a job at a nursing home. If not there, then try a doctor's office. Go to monster.com and apply to all the jobs. Atleast start some per diem job, or something like that. I mean LOOK EVERYWHERE rather than only hospitals. Hope I helped.

I am having a really hard time finding a job as well. I am a new LPN that has been applying in person to a bunch of different nursing homes in CT. All I can do is fill out the application, I don't even have the chance to interview with anyone. No one will even call me back. I was not in the medical profession before so I am thinking that this may have something to do with it. Will I be able to renew my license if I don't get any experience??

Hi orange57,

I'm sorry this is so late! Busy bee lately. I got a job at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. I absolutely LOVE it there. It is a truly caring and friendly environment. No "eating the young" going on there.. and I'm not just saying that... it's true!

I'm on their telemetry unit and am loving it.! It's busy busy, but that's one of the reasons I love it so much. I can't sit still.. I like to look up at the clock and be like.. WHOA, it's 2:00 already???!!!

I can only say good things about this hospital!! I'm very happy w/my new career.

Thank you everyone for the congrat's! It has been a long time coming.. the job hunt was very difficult but the wait sure paid off.

Good luck to you all!! Don't give up your search!! Go to as many Open Houses as you can... and network network network!
