Seriously.....!!!

I love how the "hospital won't comment on whether or not the Mom had fertility treatments". Come on!!!!

The medical professional who implanted this woman with 8 embryos should share the blame. We have a responsibility to educate our patients not only about what medical science CAN do but about the risks involved in doing so.

I completely agree. Very irresponsible and negligent on their part.

I just read that the grandmother told her not to have anymore and that if she did, she was leaving. She had even consulted a psychologist about her daughter's obsession with having children. The report stated that this woman wanted children no matter the cost or consequence. If I can post the article I will. Its on AOL so I don't know if I can get it to post.

I don't know if this link will work.

You know it really makes me so angry that people are so judgemental about everyone and their and what they are doing. So what this mother had multiple babies. Who cares is if insurance paid for it or not. Its not your business. No one knows what people go through to have children and when they finally are able to be blessed with children its precious to them. Every women in the world can't get pregnant like regular women can. I can almost guarntee that if a women on this board couldn't get pregnant the regular way and she really really wanted a baby, but her only options were IVF or some type of fertility drug that she wouldn't do it. People need to stop being so judgemental and take a moment to think if you didn't have the option to have children with infertility treatments whether insurance paid for it or not. And there are some insurance companies that will pay for it, plus there are other ways to get money besides having insurance. So people need to lay off this woman and all women that have to have infertility treatments whether its an option or not. Be blessed if you have children, because what would you do if a daughter told you, that you could never have children without the help of IVF.

If she had no children and this was her one shot, then I might see your POV. But she has been "blessed" 6 times already. And apparently it has put her family in the poor house. I'd have a hard time living in my parents house with my 6 kids and getting IVF while they filed for bankrupcy. But you're right, it's not my business.

What is my business is the cost. And I am paying for it! I will eat my monitor if this is paid for, totally by her, in cash.

If she has insurance, she is going to make my premiums go up. If she has insurance, it has a cap and will run out very soon. Then you know what happens? She gets Medicare for them. She is already entitled to Social Security for them. If she never gets WIC or public asssitance, great! Have as many litters as you want! But as long as I am a taxpayer in this country and my hard earned money is taken from me, I am entitled to my opinion.

Thanks for the link. I read the article, and it sounds like this women is a nut-job.

I think it's very foolish of the woman just to get her name on the news. How unfortunate for those poor babies, not to even mention the cost on the medical expenses.:o

Yeah, our local news said they would be in the hospital for about 2 weeks. The smallest was 1 lb. 8 oz. and they were born at 30 weeks. Um .... we'll see about that!

You sure they didn't say 2 months?

Now, to read the rest of the thread. This is a story that keeps getting weirder and weirder.

BTW, there's another thread on the OB/GYN board (I started it).

While I think fertility treatments are great for those who really need them, I'm afraid that too often treatments are started too soon. I thought the standard was a year of failing to conceive meant there was need for intervention. Now it seems women are off birth control and right on fertility treatment. I know a woman who went on fertility hormones before even a trial period without birth control. She said she was ready and did not want to "wait". She is now pregnant with twins. She swears this had nothing to do with the treatments despite the lack of family history. Oh yeah and she is a NURSE!

AFAIK, there is no oversight regarding fertility doctors and clinics, and too many of them care only that the check is good.

JMHO.

The third and fourth sets of quintuplets where all survived, the Fischers of South Dakota and the Prietos of Venezuela, were born within the same week in 1963 and both were unplanned sixth pregnancies.

BUT fertility drugs were not involved in either case! In both cases, their moms were told they were having twins, possibly triplets, and that was that.

The Prietos were all boys; the Fischers were 4 girls and a boy.

How do I know all this? A few years ago, I was browsing in a used bookstore and found "Life" and "Look" magazines with these families on the cover. They're somewhere in my house.

"Look" folded in the 1970s and was a competitor to "Life" magazine.

I was in 8th grade in 1963 and remember that vividly. We subscribed to Look magazine and I'm sure pored over the photos when that issue came.

I worked with a nurse in the late 70's who knew she was having twins, and instead had triplets. That was before all the US stuff too. And of course, before you knew what "flavors" you were getting. Oh, the good old days!!!!

The Dionne quintuplets born in 1934 in Ontario. Its very sad what happened to them but what a marvel of miracles to have 5 babies survive.

The Mom (Nadya) has done IVF for all of her children, using the same (unidentified) sperm donor for them all. According to grandma, Nadya "just wanted one more girl"...[/quote]

I'm a lurker from CVICU and have enjoyed reading your comments and insight. Question: Is it standard practice to implant this many embryos, hoping for one to take? This seems negligent of her doc to implant so many, especially if she was against reduction (I am assuming she was against reduction, or perhaps just plain ol' crayzee?):uhoh3:
