I was wondering what everyone's GPA and Preference Points were, also I was wondering if the new math placement test is as hard for everyone else as it was for me (I couldn't make the minimum requirement for the 2 preference points) so now I only have 15 preference points with a 3.3 GPA. I don't think I will make it in because of the math test.
ALTERNATES:
Since I was curious about my options, I called OCCC. Here is what I was told:
Those accepted for 2011 Fall have until 31st of May to accept. That's less than two weeks! Not knowing my status was unbearable, but now, I think I can handle the wait.
Then, the top 30 alternates will be contacted by RK to be offered the 1+1 option. (There is nothing on our part to do, which is different from my original understanding.) I hope this gives some of you hope!
yes, I see the redundancy..:-)!
Alternate #5. Not excited. BUT.... Congrats to those who made it!!!
Called the health professions office today. They said alternates with lower numbers typically always end up in the program. Which is good.... but I'm not going to get my hopes up on it. With my luck, they'll only call back the first 4 alternates (occchopeful: that means good news for you! ).
I'm already just soooo tired of waiting!
Again though, congrats to those who made it!
If it makes you feel any better, me too. I had 16 pts with a 3.21 gpa. If I had passed the stupid math test, I would have had 17 pts, and would be in. Luckily, I got in to the OU program (because it doesn't use that ridiculous points system...it is heavily weighted by pre-reqs and gpa).
Just curious how the OU system works? Do you have to have been taking classes at OU to get into their program? I would love to go to OU but I do not want to have to retake all my science classes that I took at OCCC.
Okay so what is the 1 + 1??
It is another collaborative process to become an RN. You get a recommendation from a 2-year RN school, like OCCC, to attend a local vo-tech school, like Metro Tech or Francis Tuttle, for their LPN program, take the N-CLEX for LPN then segue into NPIII at OCCC (or whatever school recommended you). This ink will be more clear about it:

No, you don't have to take pre-reqs at OU. I have taken all of mine at OCCC, except for anthropology, which I took from OSU (independent study - by mail). You will have to take physiology. OU accepts A&P 1 and A&P 2 as their anatomy requirement, then requires separate physiology. Also, they require a junior level non-western culture course (like anthropolgy). I should say, though, that I have an associates degree, which may have made my prereq requirements different.
OU does give some degree of preference to students who have done their prereqs at OU or another research level university, but that didn't keep me from getting in. I think their heaviest weighted areas are completion of prereqs, GPA, and science GPA.
meeting in hpc 226 on either may 26, 3:00 pm, or june 2, 10:00 am where i will be explaining the 1+1 option. that option allows us to refer about 25 students to one of 3 pn programs for first year (francis tuttle, metro tech, or moore-norman) and join the program here in the fall of 2012….giving them same opportunity for completion date (may 2013) as the class to be admitted in fall 2011.
