  1. Thank you all for the replies. I may have to look more into travel nursing since the options seem so bleak. I will be changing specialties while still in Oklahoma but I'm unsure about which one would be better for out there. I think my new plan will be to get a job in the OR at the VA center here and the hopefully transfer to VA in California after my bachelor degree is done.
  2. I am just about finished (30 more days) with my first year of nursing! I have been working on a step-down ICU unit an Oklahoma City hospital. I am going to be moving to California in February or March and I am looking at the Long Beach area. My question is how is the job market there? I am looking at surgery but would consider other areas as well. I only have my associates but I am going to start schooling for my BSN in January. I have read on applications they only consider BSN degrees is this true or am I okay since I'm going to school? Any information is helpful to me. I am also considering travel nursing but I would rather just find my nursing home in one hospital. Thank for your help in advance!
  3. I have thought of military hospitals cause my dad is Army and he told me to try but I would think that wouldn't be harder to get into.
  4. What BSN program are you in? I would like to get my BSN I was just hoping I could start working somewhere and they would pay me to get it so I didn't accumulate any more student loans.
  5. Thank you everyone for all your info! You have helped me a lot! Although it isn't what I wanted to hear I am not looking at the possibility of staying in Oklahoma for a year or so until I can get work expereince. I am going to still fill out some applications in CA thought Does anyone know if it is the same way in Northern California or is it easier to get a job there?
  6. Normally I would agree about putting relationship before careers but I have been with my boyfriend now for almost 9 years, he was there for me when I was put in foster care and many other issues, so I know he isn't going anywhere and of course I put my relationship with him first. I am also very aware of the current issues in California about nursing job, that is the reason I started this thread to see if I could get some information about how to go about finding a job. If worse comes to worse, I will work here in Oklahoma for a year and then move out there but it is obviously not my first choice and I would kick myself if I did not try to get a job out in California.
  7. My boyfriend already lives there that is why I am moving there. I have a car to get around and I have read about the market that is why I am looking now for jobs. I've had to live in Oklahoma while he went to California and I am anxious to be living with him again that's why I am wanting to live there so bad. I don't want to have to be apart another year. Thank you for your input and advice!
  8. Thank you that is a lot of good information! I was curious about applying now but I wasn't sure if it was to early or not. I want to move right after I graduate but I'm just scared to move out there and not get a job for awhile. I will start looking this weekend at websites to apply. Thank you for all the information!
  9. That is pretty funny how you did the exact opposite! The plan as of right now is to move during the summer but I would really like to have a job in place but if that doesn't work out I will stay here for 6 months or so and save up money so I will definitely look into what you mentioned in okc. Thank you!
  10. I live in OKC right now and I graduate with my RN (ADN) in May 2013 and I am needing some advice. I will be moving to the SoCal area (Costa Mesa or Long Beach) so I was curious if 1. anyone has made this move and knows if I should take my NCLEX here and transfer it to California or just take my NCLEX in California. 2. Where should I apply for a job? I want to work at one of the hospitals either adult or childrens but need a little input on where to apply. Any info would help. THANK YOU!
  11. I have been trying to look at the LVN-RN brochure but every time I click the link it says page not found and I do not live in california right now and they don't take calls so I feel stuck with no information. I heard that the application period is only in september for both semesters but is that the case for the LVN-RN pathway too? I have all my required classes as well.
  12. Well you have been very helpful! Thank you!
  13. No I have all of my prerequisites done. I guess I won't be able to apply for the fall 2012 at all since they are only taken in September. This is the only school I've found in southern Cali that doesn't require a year work experience. Do they tell you how long the wait lists are?
  14. Well I am not planning on moving to california until the summer and the only time i will be able to go there for the orientations is march..so I guess what I'm asking is September the only application period for the Fall 2012? I am also under the impression that you do not have to have 1 years work experience..is that true? I really want to apply but I can't do anything until march.
