OCC GPA!

Published

Hi I will be done this Decmeber with all the requirments to get into the program at Oakland Community College. I was wondering for the people who are in the program or on the wait list these questions:

*how long have you been waiting

or

*how long did you wait

and

*what your gpa is/was?

Thank you!

I just would like to know how long I will have to wait since they do not tell you how long you wait they just say it depends on your gpa.

So Anne have you decided to go the LPN route? What is the gpa for that?

Yes, I have decided to apply for the LPN route. If that works out, I will probably go on to the bridge program if I can get the support I need from my family. I wish I had more support at home, but my husband is just kind of neutral about this whole thing so far and last night when I told him I would have to go to the Southfield campus, he seemed to get crabby on me.

They didnt have any information on the GPA from last year. They only said that there were 27 openings and over 60 people applied. I imagine this year they will have a lot more people applying.

They did say that for those who apply to the LPN program and get in, your application is automatically pulled from RN. So, you cant accept an LPN spot and still apply for the RN in Dec. I already know a lot of people who are taking classes over to raise their GPA for next Dec for what its worth.

Someone asked about what would happen if they had 200+ people apply with a 4.0?

and the reply was that they could not see that happening in the near future. So, if you can get a 4.0 right now, it sounds like you are guarenteed a spot.

Wow. In order for me to get a 4.0 right now I would already have to retake 2 classes that I got a B in. and to think that I thought I was doing good with my A's and B's. It seems like it is getting harder and harder to get into school as the time passes now. By the time I am done with everything I am definitely going to maybe have to consider relocating. I won't give up hope yet though because there are still other places that I can apply to. I may apply to the RN program just to see if I get in. If I do then I will go that route and then do a bridge program. if not then I can still apply in December for the RN although I think it would be pointless if I couldn't even get in the LPN. But I'm sure I'll manage!!

Im sure you will do fine Ashley. At OCC GPA is the most important thing. If you are going to another school they probably have more criteria that factors into your selection.

so which cohort are you first or second?

I'm assuming you're referring to me, fetachz. I was in the second accelerated cohort. Graduated August 26th 2010 :)

OCC no longer has a wait list. It goes by GPA now. When I first applied, I didn't get in and I had a 3.5GPA. I re-took some of my prerequisites to bring it up to a 3.92 and I got in right away the following May.

That sounds exactly like my situation. I re-applied in Otober :-/

Did anyone here any rumors as to if they were going to have the accelerated track again this year? I had my meeting with the counselor the other day, and he basically asked me if I was interested in doing the accelerated track and I got really excited and was like "Wait does this mean you are having it!" and he was like "well we don't know yet, but..."

anyone hear anything regarding the accelerated track? and how many people they will take (cuz I know last year they only took 30 versus the 60 they used to take).

I don't know, but I really hope so! I am not even sure I'd made the cut for it....I haven't figured out the GPA exactly, but I have all As with one A-. I keep hearing of these crazy amounts of applicants with a 4.0--makes me nervous (although, kudos to them!). :-) I think last year they did not confirm the accelerated until the end of February at the earliest....I remember a lot of people on edge about it.

jazz, you have the same gpa as I do - 3.972.

I also have the same fears as you, lol.

We should be all right, but I want to be neutral about it until the letter is in my hand.
