OCC - 2009 applicants / 2010 ADN prospective students

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

I just wanted to start a post for all of those OCC students who are waiting to get into the ADN program (regular or accelerated) in 2010. There are only 2 more months until the acceptance letters will be mailed out. Let's keep in touch and keep each other updated!

:hpygrp:

Still no letter today  I am starting to get impatient...people said it came regular mail, not certified right????

My letter came yesterday in regular mail. Sorry about your wait. It's horrible.

Well guys...let's get on our grind and apply this year. I'm sure there are plenty of ppl who had to retake classes. For this year, which made the GPA go up. Now that we know what to expect, let's make sure we ace these classes. Nothing less than 3.9

If they got your application and your GPA is higher than 3.774. You have nothing to worry.

I would recommend you give them a call if you don't get it by Monday.

Btw, I am sure that I will be the one who has to retake some classes. If I got all As in 3 classes, I will get 3.9xx. And if I don't get in next year. I think I probably have to give up OCC and try other school. Or probably do waitlist at HFCC or Mercy in OHio or even Macomb.

What's you guys who don't get accpeted plan B?

My plan A so far is to try for the Lpn program then bridge to Rn later. I know it doesnt sound too ambitious, but Im having financial problems and just cant swing more pre-reqs right now.

My plan B is not looking good.

That's what I was thinking to do too. But I heard LPN is very competitive too. Probably higher GPA.

Good luck with your decision.

I don't have financial problem right now but if I got in the problem, I would have.

I'll be just happy to get in any programs right now.

HFCC has a waiting list of 3 years right now so I don't know if thats the route you want to go unless you get yourself placed on the list now while you work on your grades for OCC for next year. I will be on HFCC waiting list at the end of the semester and right now they have an estimated 800 people on the list and they only take about 150 per year I believe she told me (don't quote me exactly) but however it went it equated out to about 3.5 years on the wait list and that was in January. I have considered Mercy College myself but didn't plan on quitting my job while doing nursing school so I was hesitant due to how bad the winters can be and the commute. Would you be moving to ohio or just commuting?

I agree with just wanting to get into a program. I have been searching high and low for a program and it seems like I am having the hardest time finding any in Michigan. I have even considered moving out of state and pursuing a nursing program elsewhere and I have even gotten into a program but my main concern would be finding employment out there. I have a really good job right now that I like and I also hold the benefits for my family so my husband would have to go get a job out there with benefits. I also didn't want to work while I was in school which I don't think would even be an option if we moved. Its just so tough here in Michigan school wise. I have seen that other states have twice as many schools as we do and the waits arent as bad. I wish someone would do something about that here!!

I just called Mercy and they are sending me a package. I still don't know yet. My boyfriend doesn't want me to move out of state or even commute back and forth between states. That's why many of my instructors said "no bagage" during school is best. Well, but it's life. We need someone! :)

My friend moved from VA to MI just because the tuition here is cheaper and I guess it's the cheapest in the country. It's too bad for us who don't get in. My boss got lower GPA but he got in last year. Just because the cutoff was a lot lower than this year.

Yea I can believe that the tuition is lower here but what good does that do if the pickings of schools are slim AND extrememly competitive with waitlists that are YEARS long?!? What a coincidence, VA is where I am considering moving to! I have found a lot of good schools out there that I would be interested in and that I qualify for. I am pretty sure that with my current gpa I could get in. Have you considered maybe ITT Tech? They have a new nursing program that they just started and if you test in the top 30 students you are in. Thats it! They haven't had a graduating class here yet but they have in other states and I hear that they are good. I tested for them in January but didn't score high enough but I am going to try again I think. I am just running out of options completely! And now they are threatening to take away my financial aid for dropping a class that I don't even need!! The bad news just keeps on rolling!

Ashley,

I haven't thought about ITT tech at all.

I was pretty sure I would get in, unfortunately!

I'm taking unnecessary classes myself just to maintain my status.

What a waste!! But I have learned something new about ice age!! LOL

do you know the cutoff for LPN?

I might do a check list next week.

I'm not to sure about the cut off for the LPN program but I know it is pretty similar to that of the RN on the basis of required classes. The school is still open so you should call and see!
