OCC - 2009 applicants / 2010 ADN prospective students

U.S.A. Michigan

I just wanted to start a post for all of those OCC students who are waiting to get into the ADN program (regular or accelerated) in 2010. There are only 2 more months until the acceptance letters will be mailed out. Let's keep in touch and keep each other updated!

:hpygrp:

I know someone who goes to ITT for a different degree and I think they are Super expensive.

Yeah, I need to get busy this weekend, have a lab exam on Tue and need an A. I think the LPN program might have a higher GPA requirement because you only need half the classes to get in.

anyone who is thinking of going to ITT........Dont do it. i am a grad from ITT in 1998 for CAD. that school is so expensive that you will probably pay 5 times what you would pay at OCC. I paid 25,000 for my degree in 98. i understand the frustration you are all going through right now. i was there last year and it sucks having to take classes over. You can also try baker college they are expensive too but i believe the prof's there are probably more qualified and it's a better school. im not saying ITT prof's aren't but 12 years ago they were a complete joke. OCC is the best school and the cheapest. if you are young and can afford to wait the year out it will be worth it. probably doesnt seem like it now but it is. after you graduate you will see i'm right. if you pay $30,000 for nursing school and spend the next 20 years making $300 payments every month you will wish you had waited and taken your classes over.

ps

best of all most 4 year colleges won't take ITT's credits so if you ever want your BSN you will be out of luck

Those are definitely some things that need to be looked into. I guess I have been getting frustrated and have been searching long and hard for different classes. I have about another 2 semesters if I go during the summer and I can start applying. I have been so stressed out because I thought by now I would be done with classes and everything that are required. If when I initially decided to go into nursing I had talked to an advisor I probably would be. I have been taking classes since Fall 2008 and I have taken mostly all of the co req's but haven't taken the sciences (AP 1 and 2 and micro) that is my own fault and I am beating myself up about it. LIke I have said in earlier posts if I didn't have such a good job already I would have relocated for school. The schools I am considering are OCC, HFCC, and WC3. I will be on the waitlist for HFCC after this semester and am still working on the pre reqs for the others.

If you were close to the GPA cut-off and didn't get in, don't count yourself out yet! Some people will decline for another program or because of personal reasons...

Congrats to everyone who got in :) I am a first year student and I love the program!

Finally got my letter today in the mail....got into the program....congratulations to all who got in!!! REALLY still hoping for the accelerated, but assuming it will be mostly 4.0's who make it...oh well, all is well here :yeah:

Got my letter friday and I'm in with a 3.88. I was also offered the accelerated program. I chose the traditional program over the accelerated.:)

How much does my ordeal suck

I have a 3.70 so I did not get in

I had 9 pre reqs to complete, so I took 4 last summer, and 5 in the fall, and applied by December 15

However, my SOC class over the summer, i got a B, but got it up to an A, but it took awhile for it to transfer on to my transcript.

I sent in my stuff in Decemeber like they said, my Grade changed to an A mid december, so I sent that one in also at the end of December.

I did not get in because they have a B still for my SOC class, bc my transcrtip never got there. and if it did I would have had a 3.777 and gotten in

I met with them today and they will not recalculate the A in, its too late

Isnt that awful?? lol gl though everyone who got in

Sorry about your ordeal, alot of us were so close but got disappointed.

Hang in there

Spazzy I'm sorry to hear what happened to you. Are you going to apply again in December?

I just missed getting in with a 3.771...does anyone know typically how many students decline their spot for personal reasons?

rivasl, you are sooooo close that I would bet that after tomorrow (deadline for those accepting entrance into the accelerated program) you'll get an acceptance letter yourself. I can't imagine that there will be 30 people closer to the cutoff than you. I have a good feeling that you'll get in. Hang in there, and I would definitely call them on Monday to see if they have any good news for you.

Spazzy, same holds true for you depending on how close to the cutoff your GPA is, even with the B grade.

Good luck!!!

Jazzy

I did call the nursing department earlier in the week and they said the letters they sent out included the 30 extra for the accelerated program so the 3.774 would be the cutoff even with those spaces...so that means pretty much that for anyone else to get in someone who was accepted would have to decline their spot. I will call the nursing department again though.
