Most men do not work OB/GYN since the patients would perfer a female nurse. I know I would if I had any OB/gyn problems.

A nurse is a nurse. A doctor is a doctor. To me anyway. I wouldn't care if they were a purple elephant from Zamuba, as long as they have the epidural!
But I do know women who prefer female medical professionals for their female situations. I was always confused why women would go to a male OBGYN but then want a female nurse? Uh, isn't that a tad ridiculous?

*****Note this is not what I believe but what I think others do*****
Doctors are professionals and nurses are nurses, I think that is totally stupid, both docsand nurses are profesioals but I bet that is the thoguht process
Sometimes it is cultural, for example if a pt is Muslim they will not accept a male RN at all, male MD is different since when we are in the hospital we don't always have a choice who our doc is. Sometimes it is because the RN is doing most of the initmate personal care. I would rather have a female cath me or bathe me than a male. I have no prob with a male RN, but for some things I would rather have another female. So many women don't want a male RN in that setting that men usually avoid OB/gyn, labor and delivery all together. I don't know too many men that want to work in those areas.

not accepting a nurse for because of gender will go by the wayside as more men are entering into nursing
it would not be acceptable to refuse a nurse d/t race, faith etc

I agree, to me a nurse is a nurse is a nurse. I have only ever had a male nurse once and they were to doing anything super intimate (PACU nurse) but a male tech helped me once, all the female techs and nurses were busy and i needed to go to the bathroom, he offered that he could either bring me a bed pan or i could wait for a female, I had him bring it

Yes! I have heard this before - women who adamantly refuse a male nurse, but their OB/GYN doctor is a male and this is fine with them! Huh??!! Total contradiction!
I myself understand not wanting a male nurse or male MD for OB/GYN though. I am very modest and private with this type of thing, and would only want female nurses and a female MD for anything OB or GYN related. I would be fine with male nurses and MDs for general medical care, but no-way for OB/GYN!

It doesn't bother me one way or another whether my nurse or doctor is a male or female as long as they are professional.
If I do have questions about my cycle I feel more confident with a female doctor because she knows what it feels like to have cramps, PMS, etc....

Yes, I agree. For myself, going to a male gynecologist (or OB) is like taking your car to a mechanic who has never owned or driven a car! But that is just me.

This is me. I've always seen female midwives or female MD's. I'm very modest also, and I'm just not comfortable with male nurses or doctors for OB/GYN related issues. I'm barely comfortable with females and didn't have anybody in the delivery room for the births of my children except there father.

This is precisely how I view this as well...imagine trying to describe a headache to someone who has never had one? :chuckle
