What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

I was told by an ER RN during school that she once had a couple name their kid Kitchen Sink Smith because that is where he came into the world. That was 20 years ago and I hope he has since been able to legally change it- like Prince did!!

Specializes in ED, OR, SAF, Corrections.

I had a patient years ago and he was an older man (early 70's) and his first name was Ghoul - now I realize he was older, but I can't imagine the name 'Ghoul' being in vogue in ANY generation.

WAs reading the paper today and saw siblings named Phoenix,Thunder, and Fauna, two boys and a girl.

Aquanetta

No kidding...LOL, takes all kinds I guess :)

I think now a days its more the spelling... for example Brighton Michael is now Bryghtyn Mychael... its like everyone puts Ys anywhere they can.

In my local paper, a nearby town lists the births at their hospital, and I swear the parents there must have contests to see who can come up with the most bizarre spellings for classic names.

Extra "H"s are popular too.

Fakers are a big problem on multiple birth websites, and are easy to spot because the pregnancies are impossibly easy, the babies are enormous (i.e. quadruplets weighing over 7 pounds each), and - this is a dead giveaway - the babies are always girls, with an occasional token boy tossed in, and they have these really cutesy names with lots of "Y"s in them.

I was told by an ER RN during school that she once had a couple name their kid Kitchen Sink Smith because that is where he came into the world. That was 20 years ago and I hope he has since been able to legally change it- like Prince did!!

At least they didn't name him Toilet!

BTW, Prince's name really is Prince Rogers Nelson. He claimed that stupid symbol was pronounced "Christopher."

Have you seen that Discovery Channel show about a teenage boy who was totally blind from retinoblastoma, and got around by making clicking noises? He had perfected this to the point where he could ride a bicycle by himself, and did not run into anything.

I say "was" because his cancer came back, and he died recently at age 16. :o

Anyway, his mom's name was Aquanetta. She's in her 40s so I do not know the origin of that name. Did the product Aqua Net exist back then?

How about the newly-departed Michael Jackson's children. Prince Michael Joseph Jackson. Paris Michael Katherine Jackson. And Prince Michael II Jackson, aka Blanket.

What does it say about a parent (George Foreman also comes to mind) when they have to "brand" each and every child with their own first name?

My local paper had a 'cutest baby' competition, and in among all the Rubys and Harrisons there was a kid named:

Jed....

I. Knight

yup, Jedi Knight.

Oops, just realised I already posted that back in November! Sorry guys. :smackingf:smackingf:smackingf
