It must be cool to work L&D on new years. Does anyone ever care about the last baby born?

So true. I wasn't the nurse for this delivery, but I couldn't help but wonder if they kind of delayed pushing that last push. If it were me...my hubby would probably say forget being the first baby of the new year...push it out so we could get the tax deduction for 2004!!!

We had delivery at 2341 on 12/31. What a bummer! Our first 2005 baby arrived 1/2/05. Our New Year Baby gets a nice gift basket and a $500.00 Savings Bond.

I think they do in this case....

These twins were born in San Jose, CA:

#1 was the last baby of 2004, born at 11:56 pm.

#2 was the first baby of 2005, born at midnight.

    Kinda cute story.

cool!!! :hatparty: There's so many things to think about: different month, day and year for twins. And (although probably will not happen) different grades in school.

My sister is an L&D nurse in Seattle and she said one of the area hospitals always schedules a C/S for 00:01 on new years day. Kind of takes the fun out if it---don't you think??

I haven't worked L&D for about 2 years, but I did deliver our hospital's Millienium baby - the cutest little thing with dark hair, dimples and was a NSVD. I remember our local networks kept calling for updates and we knew were in the running because they would tell us about the other hospitals and far along someone was. :chuckle

The 2000 baby for the city of course went to a single mom who delivered precipitously in the ER after arriving high on heroin. 8th pregnancy.
