We had the first for our county at 12:01 a.m.

Anyone else have the first for their area????

The 2000 baby for the city of course went to a single mom who delivered precipitously in the ER after arriving high on heroin. 8th pregnancy.

 Did the local news cover that story ? :chuckle

Of course they did. The mom was showered with gifts from 2000 diapers, to a sterling silver picture frame, and other stuff I can't even remember. Gifts galore. She loved the attention.

I remember thinking: sign of the times.

Our hospital did give some gifts to the baby I delivered, though, so it was nice. I just would have loved for her to have been the city's first new year baby. She was soooo cute and they were such a cute couple. First baby and everything.

We had a woman come in at 2225 and we thought for sure we would have the first 2005 baby.....turned out she was already fully dilated with bulging membranes and she ended up delivering at 2312. Oh well.....

The day shift had the honor of the first 2005 baby for our unit, I don't recall the time.

The three hospitals in our area that do deliveries all have a little informal competition to see who has the first one out of the three of us. We were all calling each other to see who would "win". The winner had their baby at 12:48

And the circumstances under which she delivered were conveniently omitted?

Yes they were.

They mentioned how she delivered quickly and barely made it to the hospital, etc, etc, but that's about it.

I remember feeling so let-down. My baby was going to be the 2000 baby, until we got a call from the networks and told us of this woman who arrived in the city's ER and delivered right away. So it was such a surprise, because she wasn't on the unit and in labor and stuff. It was just like.."where did SHE come from?"

My delivery was actually the FIRST in Connecticut at 12:40 am on 1/1. It was cool. I don't think we have ever had the first state baby in all the years I have worked at my facility. Some bigger place usually beats us out but not this time! :balloons: :rotfl:

We didn't have our New Year Baby until Jan. 4, we are a small rural hospital, only one in the county. Many of the local businesses donate, one of our nurses does a great job of coordinating it. It was a nice young couple, first baby, from our town. Her Mom had most of her children here too!

YES. We had the first baby in the state of Connecticut this year and it was my patient! Because we are small we have never had the FIRST in the state, but this year we did! It was very cool, not to mention the couple was sooooooo nice!
