Hi there, anyone getting ready to interview in the next couple months for the Oakland University Accelerated nursing program? Thought this would be a good place in share experiences! Good luck!
Also, does anybody in the program already have any advice for the next couple agonizing months? Thanks in advance!
yes, thank you xadunzo, it's always nice to hear about the program from people who went through it!
I'm hoping we find out this week. Although a part of me keeps telling myself that maybe it's better not knowing because it could be a no and I don't want to find that out lol. But luckily I have a pretty busy week this week that I can try not to obsess about it!
I find myself checking my OU email then I check here to see if anyone posted that they got their letters yet. HOpefully soon!
Well mail came and went - nothing from Oakland. What's going on here?? Anyone else hear anything?? I say this tongue and cheek - just was hoping to know before Easter so I can enjoy the holiday.
SA: Congrats to you as well. You start in May?? I thought we were all interviewing for January - the lady told me I was interviewing for January. Now I'm really confused.
Hi everyone, I finally received my letter of acceptance for January 2011 start. I'm very sorry to hear about those who got bad news. I know how it feels as I was rejected for another program a few months ago. I hope you don't stop pursuing your dreams.
Good luck to all of you who are still waiting to hear.

Hi ejcl68. I have been reading these posts and I was wondering if OU still has the rolling admissions. I still have to take A&P before I can apply, but when I went to the informational meeting (about 2 years ago now!) the advisor told us that OU practices rolling admissions. For example, if you interviewed for Jan 2011 but there were people with higher GPAs than you, but they still liked you as a candidate, they would move you to the next cohort of May 2011.
Can you tell me if they are not doing that anymore? Do you just interview for one cohort and if you don't get it, that's it? I was under the impression that OU still had rolling admissions, but if I am wrong, can you please correct me?
Congratulations for being accepted into the program!
Thanks!!
Hi Steph,
Thanks!!
I think it is a rolling admission. When I applied, I was told I was being slated for January 2011. But they can never guarantee anything. My best advice is to apply as soon as possible before your last semester. For example, I applied in August before my last semester of classes. This way they know who you are and can plan ahead. Do not wait till your classes are completed. I do believe if they really like you, they might put you to another later start term - not sure. I think many of the people interviewed for January but as you see, at least one person is starting in May. I also know there is no guarantee of 50 OPEN spots for each cohort. I know someone who started in May 2010 who got moved up all the way from january 2011 class. So I can only conclude that they may not have 50 spots open for each term but will place people where they can fit them in (with the chance people can move up). I truly feel the grades are a key element but also the interview plays a big role as well. Also, the goal statement is probably factored in. I have been very impressed with Oakland's nursing program. Good luck to you.

Hi guys, I'm currently in the program, will graduate August 10. I just skimmed through the earlier posts, so I'll try to cover what I can recall. I had to wait about 9 months after I had found out I was accepted to the program to actually start. My GPA wasn't great, 3.4 prereqs and overall from MSU with a psych degree. I had no experience but I'm male. I don't exactly recall but I don't think I had to wait that long to hear a response, less than two months for sure. When I interviewed, they accepted 50 students out of approximately 150-200. I've heard some horror stories about other's interviews but mine went well, I guess it really depends on who you get.
For the online prereq classes, to be honest, it is kind of a waste of time. Talking to the professors, they completely acknowledge the fact that all you do is sit in front of your computer with the book taking the exams. They expect that from us. One professor even told me that don't understand why we aren't all taking the online exams together.
For the program itself, it can get pretty hectic. It is on the disorganized side but I feel like that comes with the territory. I'm not sure it will still be offered but I was in the "pilot" group over the Summer. It allowed us to take fundamentals (281) prior to actually starting the program. I thought it was really nice as I had zero experience and it allowed me to get used to everything. In addition to that fact, merely being able to break up validations is a huge burden taken off your shoulders. You will hate validations. Easily the worst part about the program. Personally, I'd really recommend it if offered.
What else? I am part of the Beaumont cohort. We were offered nursing assistant jobs through them once we were accepted. Personally, I did not take the job but most of the people did. I've heard it is pretty helpful but people tend to hate the work that goes into it.
If you have any questions, let me know. I usually don't come onto the site but I'll try my best
