Hi there, anyone getting ready to interview in the next couple months for the Oakland University Accelerated nursing program? Thought this would be a good place in share experiences! Good luck!
Also, does anybody in the program already have any advice for the next couple agonizing months? Thanks in advance!
No, once you are accepted to Oakland as a pre-nursing Accelerated BSN student, you can register for any of the three online courses. I believe Patho is a co-req or pre-req to Pharm. But I know someone who took all three at the same time and did well. You don't need to pay for the class until the first week I believe. So there is time to drop if needed. Let's hope we all get accepted so we don't need to do so. :)
If anyone has advice on which prof is best for pharmacology at Oakland, can you send me a private message?? I know we can't mention specific names on this site. I signed up for Pharm and nutrition at Oakland but I see there are several professors teaching it. I appreciate it. Not sure if one is better than the other.
Hi SASlong,
Thanks and how fitting on day like this. Happy St. Patricks Day!!! I too am obsessed and check my email and mail everyday hoping for a decision. I think they are taking their time this year. I know two people who found out within a week after interviewing last year. I guess it's a good thing because that means they are being thorough. Also, a friend of mine who is starting this May said they are taking 75 for this term only - Fall and Winter remain at 50 students. I think this is a good thing since the lab / clinicals would get kinda busy with extra people. I am thinking we will hear by the end of next week.
I think I have been checking my email about 20 times a day...LOL This is crazy, I just want to know already. I heard it would be 2 to 6 weeks before decisions are out, but I am hopeful it won't be that long. I rec'd an email from OUnursing earlier and my heart stopped for an instant until I realized it was just a flyer...ugh!
Ejcl, are you taking pharm next fall? Since it's an online class I wonder if it even matters who the prof is? Anyway, I am taking it with the O'... this summer. I am taking the Nutrition class with the same prof as SASlong and also will receive an A (I completed it early). I had a couple issues with the CD that came with the book and he was very helpful.
I keep checking my email a bunch too, as much as I can, lol!
I had the same professors as the poster above for Nutrition, and the lady with the Irish last name for Patho. I'm taking Pharmacology this summer with the Irish. I liked the classes and got an A in Nutrition and I expect the same for Patho. Hope that helps.
Hi wj; I only asked since there were two prof's teaching it(O' and sal) so I was just wondering if one was better than the other. I agree -with online courses it probably doesn't matter. But I heard some make you write papers and do extra stuff on top of exams. I am not looking for an easy prof - but want one who is fair and let's you know what is key and important. So I was just wondering if one was better than the other. Yes, I am taking Pharm and Nutrition in the Fall - assuming I am in the program(feeling confident about it but don't want to jinx myself) I talked to a friend of mine who is in the program and she said Pharm is tough(because of the amount of chapters and memorization required) and didn't suggest I take it this summer for 8 weeks. She said 15 weeks was difficult enough but it sounds like she had a different prof than the one you guys had. I think 8 weeks is very doable if you are committed but for me, I want to enjoy the summer so I am really fresh for the killer part of the program. I think starting a few months early is not that big of deal.
I am only applying to OU. At OU I had the least amount of work to do to be able to apply and it seemed like the best shot to get in because of the numbers they admit and having cohorts for each semester. Hope I made the right choice.
Summer classes are always tougher because of the time constraints. I am just grateful that Patho and Pharm aren't offered simultaneously - taking them back-to-back should help. I hope!
O.K. I know we haven't heard but it's been almost 3 weeks since I interviewed. I hope we hear soon and praying it's good news for all of us!!! I know the profs who I interviewed said the classes can be competitive and somewhat cliquey. I love to help my classmates so I am hoping there won't be too many stuck up people, who are just out for themselves. :)

Maybe I should try to get into nutrition at least and if I don't get accepted, then I won't take it. Would I need an override to take that course? Also, do you have to pay right away if I registered for it. I went to OU for my BA several years ago and I can't remember how it works there.
