Hi everyone! I'm applying for the NYU Spring 2015 ABSN program and haven't been able to find any threads about the program yet. Feel free to post questions you have or to share information about the program, your personal stats, advice for writing the personal statement or just to say hi. Here's to speedy acceptances and a fun future in nursing! :)
My Stats:
Just graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.S. in Psychology and an overall GPA of 3.38
Got an A in almost all the pre-reqs, don't know the pre-req GPA
Volunteered as an EMT for 4 years and worked for 2 years
Worked as a Direct Care Worker for 1 year
Volunteer in Methodist Hospital in the Stepdown Unit
Hi everyone! I also got my acceptance letter yesterday and I live on the East Coast. I am so thrilled!! I am definitely nervous about the cost of the program, and I've been doing a lot of research on private lenders. I can't do housing through NYU because I have a dog, so I'm starting to look at apartments. Where is everyone thinking of living? Brooklyn seems awesome! I don't want too long of a commute and I'm not sure what our schedule will be like. I haven't been able to go to any of the info sessions so hopefully we'll get more info on clinicals/classes soon! So excited and congrats to everyone!! :)
Totally understand what you're going through. I had to go in and personally hand in things. I check my phone all the time to see if I have any emails at work. I'm pretty sure another round of acceptance/rejections won't go out until at least a week, probably more. They'll probably wait for others to accept or deny their seats before another round goes out. Hang in there, we'll find out soon enough!
I got the email about that event and am considering going. I am so torn between NYU and a program at University of New England in Portland, Maine. The UNE program would be less expensive, but I think the NYU experience would be amazing. So hard to decide! Does anyone know what the rough estimate cost is for the entire program? Exciting times, congrats to everyone who has been accepted and fingers crossed for those waiting to hear back.
Hey Guys,
As for the welcome night, I would really like to go but I have work that evening and class. For those of you that do go, can you please let us know if the info session was helpful or not?
As for the people who are coming from outside of New York state, in terms of housing, I would say avoid Manhattan at all cost for the following reasons:
1. If you're looking to save money it's not the place to be unless you're taking housing with NYU other than that everything in Manhattan is pretty expensive.
2. Try looking into Brooklyn but avoid areas like Williamsburg, Brooklyn Heights or Greenpoint. These areas are really nice but they come with a pretty hefty dollar sign. Instead look into areas more inside Brooklyn as the rent will tend to go down.
3. Brooklyn and Commute is not that bad to NYU, it shouldn't be more that 35-40mins.
4. Try Queens YAY!! My hometown, its a lot cheaper than Manhattan and Brooklyn and the commute is around 35mins (my commute to NYU) depending on where you live. Also the food in Queens is pretty good.
5. Try Union City NJ or the areas around Hoboken but not Hoboken itself because its pretty expensive. Rent in Union City and the areas around Hoboken is not that bad and again the commute is around 35-40 mins.
6. There's also the Bronx where you can get something good.
For those of you that are worried about safe vs unsafe neighborhoods you can find this information on Trulia.com which can tell you if the crime is high, moderate or low. Personally I don't believe some of the things they say about the safe vs non-safe neighborhoods, but I think its because I grew up in NYC.
If you guys have any questions you can just message me. I hope this information is helpful

thank you spaceshuttleboy!
I think I'm going to live with one of my friends in Brooklyn so I can cut down on living costs.
What are other people thinking for housing? Going with nyu housing or searching for other options in the city?
