NYU Spring 2015 ABSN

Published

Hi everyone! I'm applying for the NYU Spring 2015 ABSN program and haven't been able to find any threads about the program yet. Feel free to post questions you have or to share information about the program, your personal stats, advice for writing the personal statement or just to say hi. Here's to speedy acceptances and a fun future in nursing! :)

My Stats:

Just graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.S. in Psychology and an overall GPA of 3.38

Got an A in almost all the pre-reqs, don't know the pre-req GPA

Volunteered as an EMT for 4 years and worked for 2 years

Worked as a Direct Care Worker for 1 year

Volunteer in Methodist Hospital in the Stepdown Unit

There'll likely be more letters this week. I doubt the acceptances last week were all that NYU made. So, be prepared to hear more news in the coming days.

I have some question for anyone who is able to answer:

What is the likelihood of NYU grads getting jobs in the city after finishing the nursing program? Do you know whether the program, being accelerated, offers externships at any of the local hospitals? Are NYU grads favored for working at NYU Langone upon graduation?

still waiting!

Still waiting as well! Spaceshuttleboy, as for your question when I went to their info session, they mention during the winter "break" that a student can do an externship or preceptorship but it would only be about two to three weeks long so Im not sure the likelyhood of getting one. I know a student in the nursing program now and she said they as much as she knows, NYU Langone does not necessarily favor NYU grads but im sure if you make yourself known with a good impression during clinical and show commitment, you will likely be in favor. Congrats on the acceptance!

hey thanks for all the information. Im going to be leaving in queens fresh meadows. do you by any chance know of any direct bus that goes to Manhattan or any other transportation that is not too long. I have researched all the trains and subways and they are all about an hour and 20 minutes. I currently live on long island and that is the same amount of time from commuting from long island. Any info will help. thank you

Thanks! That's really insightful info. I hope you'll get some news about your application this week. I find it odd that they don't tell everyone at the same time. I wonder why that is.

They do rotate at langone. So u'll have a chance to impress the right person there. I learned this from insider info

Still waiting! And trying to be hopeful

can anyone who got accepted tell me how much time they give you to accept/deny your seat? I'm just curious and trying to guesstimate when the next round will go out. I imagine it would be after that time limit

The letter I received requested that I pay the deposit by the end of three weeks from the date of the letter. That puts it at December 2. But surely the next round of admissions has to be before that.

Just a random question - how much is the deposit? $500?

The deposit is $500. There is also a separate deposit of $1000 for housing, if that applies. Did everyone who apply also receive a housing offer?

Meanwhile, I spoke with NYU today, and they have said that we should get our financial aid award notices by the end of this week. On the College of Nursing's website, there is the mention that all applications are also automatically considered for merit-based and need-based NYU scholarships of between $500 and $25,000. A scholarship would be very welcome.

Does anyone know if any of the folks who attended the program in previous years receive any type of NYU scholarship? I wonder what other financial aid options are available. Does NYU also offer private loans?

Hey nmarky7

The only bus I know that goes directly from Queens to Manhattan is the X68. The x68 leaves from floral park queens and that's not close to fresh meadows. The only other option is to take the F train which goes straight to NYU. I know where I live I take a Gypsy cab ($2) to the E/ Jamaica Center and the train ride is about 45mins. So with the cab and train its about 50mins for me. Don't go too much by what map quest and hop stop says because they overestimate a lot of time. If you have questions you can just message me
