NYU Spring 2015 ABSN

Published

Hi everyone! I'm applying for the NYU Spring 2015 ABSN program and haven't been able to find any threads about the program yet. Feel free to post questions you have or to share information about the program, your personal stats, advice for writing the personal statement or just to say hi. Here's to speedy acceptances and a fun future in nursing! :)

My Stats:

Just graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.S. in Psychology and an overall GPA of 3.38

Got an A in almost all the pre-reqs, don't know the pre-req GPA

Volunteered as an EMT for 4 years and worked for 2 years

Worked as a Direct Care Worker for 1 year

Volunteer in Methodist Hospital in the Stepdown Unit

Hey Spaceshuttleboy,

I know that most students who qualify for need-based get about $2800 per semester. Usually to get need-based they look at your EFC on the FAFSA, and if you have an EFC of 000, you will most likely get that $2800 per semester. At least that's what someone in the program told me. Other than that I think we're going to have to wait and see what the award letter says. BTW thank you for calling to find out about the financial aid notices I was wondering when we would get those.

No prob. Thanks for answering, too. So, my EFC is $0.00. (Poor people over here!) And I guess if we receive the grant - and this is speculative - that would lower tuition by $14,000. For me, that would reduce the cost to an amount comparable to the other universities on my list, so that I might then consider accepting NYU's offer. By the way, has ANYONE accepted yet? It's like a pretty wrapped candy I want to stare at but don't want to open it to eat.

Hey Spaceshuttleboy,

I accepted their offer because when I calculated what it would have cost to go to the other school I was accepted to it came out to the same thing if not cheaper if I attended NYU. I really didn't want to move, so being able to live rent free with my family is a pretty sweet deal for me. Also no food costs lol. I also know that there are more scholarships and aid that become available during the year.

Haha! That is the best comparison spaceshuttleboy! What things are you taking into consideration when making the decision? It will be so hard to pass up this opportunity but the cost is getting to me and I have never really lived in a big city so it might me a lot all at once.

Antigone823, It's wonderful that you've accepted this offer! Though, wasn't your other university $20,000 cheaper?

Aceeden05, I'm first waiting on the financial aid award to determine how much I'll need to supplement with private loans, then determine if I can access that amount on my own - and whether it would be reasonable. There may also be last minute offers from some of the other universities I've applied to. The UW, which is a higher ranked (and much less expensive) university, will let me know in December. But I'd really like to go to NYU!

Oh wow, yeah i'm sure they'll send out another wave before then too. Thanks!!

It was $20k cheaper, but when I considered housing and living expenses it was only 10K. I think the main reason I decided to stay is because I really didn't want to move to the midwest and all my family and friends are here. I was worried about trying to find a job back in NYC when I was done and quite frankly all the networking that I can do while I'm here is way more worth it to me. I hope that makes sense.

Oh and Spaceshuttleboy,

I forgot to add this...When I did my first degree in Finance I was first admitted to NYU but chose to go to a cheeper school in NYC. While I did exceptionally well and got a great job after graduating, it was no where near to the opportunities that my friends who went to NYU had. So I think this is probably another major thing that drove my decision.

Lovely. So in a way going to NYU would be a sort of personal fulfillment and would complete a full circle for you, I imagine, right? It's true the NYU name will open a lot of doors. It's great that you're in this time, and you'll have the opportunity to rewrite a part of the past somewhat.

I got in this morning @7:30am est!!!! I'm so excited right now!!

For those that are curious about what my stats were: psych major with a 3.6 GPA from Rutgers university; 4.0 in pre reqs; 1 and a half years experience in a psychiatric hospital; LOR from a psychiatric nurse practitioner and a medical nurse practitioner... Best of luck to all those who are waiting to find out!!

Congrats!!!! You're a superstar today! Good luck to everyone else who might be getting into today too!

What state are you from?
