Members are discussing the hiring process at NYU Langone, sharing experiences with phone screens, interviews, and references. Some express frustration with the website, while others offer advice on navigating the application process and timelines for hiring. Questions about salary offers for new grads and comparisons between hospitals are also brought up.
Hello I recently applied for a position at NYU, they sent me an email recently saying to complete an online questionnaire or assessment tool. Is that a good sign? Do I have a good chance of hearing back?
Thank you everyone for the wishes of good luck! I had my interview this morning! It was a panel interview with the NM, an RN, and a PCT. A little nerve-wracking and intimidating! They did a lot of talking, mostly explaining about the unit, the type of working environment, what challenges new nurses will face, but also what resources are available to support us throughout the process. A lot of emphasis was placed on the importance of being honest, keeping open communication, and how every member is considered as an equal amongst the team. They asked me about why I want to work on this particular unit, what I would be able to contribute/offer, and how I would fit in. They also asked me to explain what having Magnet status at NYU meant to me. I can't remember exactly what I responded for these questions as it was all spontaneous and borne from adrenaline, but it must have gone well because at the end of it all the NM asked the RN and PCT if they would recommend me for the position, and they both said yes. The NM then said she would be recommending me for the position as well (and wouldn't have asked the RN and PCT in front of me if she wasn't going to). I'm very excited, but will be holding my breath until I receive that official offer! Considering it is a holiday week, I don't know how soon I will hear back from HR.
No matter what happens, I want to thank every one of you on this thread for all the advice, insight, and words of support and kindness throughout this whole process. I don't think I would have made it this far without everyone's help. I find it comforting to know that I may soon be working amongst such amazing nurses as you all are. :)
@DWinNY CONGRATULATIONS! So happy to hear that you got the green light from the NM :) I hope you hear before the holiday! I'm going in tomorrow for my physical and to submit my paperwork. One thing I could recommend that you do while you wait is to get BLS recertification since the card needs to be valid at least during the first three months of employment. Mine expires at the end of January so I went to a class on Monday to get it renewed. Hope I get to see you for the Dec. orientation!
@greatgirl123 It is my understanding that after you submit the online assessment nurse recruitment will contact you for an interview only if you pass. I'm not sure what the criteria is to pass but the turnaround time to hear back varies. Hope you receive good news soon!
Happy Thanksgiving folks!
Hope you all had a great holiday weekend! I received the official offer letter earlier this week! :) So happy and relieved. Thanks for all the well wishes. I still have to get my physical and paperwork done but I'm having some difficulty getting in contact with the person who is supposed to schedule my appointment...seems like all my emails go unanswered. A little frustrating because I just want to complete all the steps necessary along this process as soon as possible. @sc128, did you encounter any difficulties with this? Also, thank you for reminding me to renew my BLS certification! Mine is expiring soon too so I went to a class on Tuesday. And I'll be in the January orientation! So excited for you to be starting in less than 2 weeks!
@DWinNY how did you contact the staffing office to schedule your interview with the nurse manager? I interviewed with the recruiter last week and I'm waiting for my interview with the manager. Did you call or email? I emailed but no response so far.
Hi @humblenurse12, first off congrats on getting through to this point! I had to email repeatedly (to multiple people) before my interview with the nurse manager was scheduled. I met with the recruiter on Nov 6 and didn't get notified for my interview with the NM until the 19th, so almost two whole weeks. I don't think it would hurt to call and inquire too!
