Thank you! My situation is so discouraging and making me question nursing. I thought there was a nursing shortage it sure doesn't seem that way. I have applied everywhere in NYC and nothing yet. I'm praying something happens soon.

Hello Fellow RNs, I am in need of advice. I have been working now for almost a year on unit that is very far from home (5 hours a day in commuting). I know a lot of nurses love the night shift; however, it does not fit in my schedule with my daughter. She is slipping in school and I feel it is due to the lack of supervision. I don't even get to see her when I have work because I leave before she comes home from school. I don't know what to do. I have applied everywhere! I received only one call from an interview and I feel it went very well but the HR rep said they're not done with interviewing and haven't made a final decision as of yet. The shift change is also taking a toll on my health. I have never been this sick before. My MD even told me I have to leave but how? The unit I work on does not have any day openings even though it would be horrible working days there because my nm is rude and mean to the RNs. Any advice on what I should do? I'm even considering moving out of state at this point because I'm beyond stressed out. Thanks in advance!
  4. DWinNY, I'm so excited too! Mine won't be for a few weeks but please let me know how yours goes. Good luck!!! You'll do great :-)
  5. sc128, congrats!
  6. DWinNY awesome news! I was contacted yesterday to schedule an interview however, I have to set the interview back for a few weeks due to my upcoming vacation. I'm so excited for you! Keep me updated! :-)
  7. Hi sc128! I agree with DWinNY. The test is more behavioral questions. How you handle certain situations i.e you don't get along with a coworker how do you handle that situation etc... It's not set up like the NCLEX. I took it for NYU and NYP and it's formatted the same way. Good luck! :)
  8. @bionicRN, thank you very much for the tips! I want to prepare in advance. :-) @DWinNY, any updates??
  9. Thank you DWinNY and BionicRN for your support! I was contacted today regarding my availability to meet with a nurse manager. I'm crossing my fingers for us! :-)
  10. Hi DWinNY, Thank you for checking in! I took the exam and you were right it wasn't bad at all! Unfortunately, the recruiter I met with was very rude. It felt like more of an interrogation than an interview. She made me wait an hour for her then had an attitude. She asked me why do I want to leave my current hospital and told me about the hospital and benefits then she asked me about my experience. She then said she will send my résumé to nurse managers and they will email/call me to set up an interview. I was upset afterwards because everyone seemed so nice except her. I currently have a year of experience so she said that I should be getting a call soon. I hope we hear something very soon! (Fingers crossed)
