Hello I recently applied for a position at NYU, they sent me an email recently saying to complete an online questionnaire or assessment tool. Is that a good sign? Do I have a good chance of hearing back?

I know I'm super nervous too! Every time I practice answering some of the possible interview questions I realize how much of an idiot I sound half the time, haha :banghead:[/quote']

Haha. I'm going through the same thing! I hope it's not too intense. I spoke with another person when I was waiting to meet with the recruiter and she said it wasn't bad at all. She just met with the nurse manager from the pacu. My stomach has been in knots just thinking about it.

Out of curiosity, did the recruiters tell you when the next hire date or when the next group of nurse residents were to start?

The recruiter told our group that they were definitely going to have a January orientation, but were deciding whether to hold a December orientation as well. They mentioned that if they ultimately decided to include a December orientation, then things would probably progress forward rather quickly. We haven't heard anything regarding second interviews yet though, so perhaps they've decided to just have the January orientation...

Hey guys! I guess I must have done well on the assessment (took it two days ago) because I just got an interview scheduled for this upcoming Monday! Very excited! Will keep you posted on what I hear! :)

Just had my interview today and it went really well. Met with a nurse recruiter in the morning. She was very nice, provided me with a lot of information (salary, benefits, nursing culture at NYU) and asked basic questions. Then she introduced me to a hiring assistant who then made a call to a nurse manager to see if I could interview with her. An hour later I met with the nurse manager (not a panel interview) and we spoke for about an hour. Again, it was pretty basic and more casual than I had anticipated. I received a tour of the unit and was introduced to the staff. All in all, a really wonderful experience. I am hoping and praying that they extend an offer.

@bionicRN In regard to your question about orientation, I found out that there is an orientation in December and one in January. I was wondering how long it took for you to receive an offer after interviewing with the nurse manager?

@sc128 what unit did you interview for?

@sc128. i received an offer 2 hours after leaving my interview. The time will vary by unit/manager, but i know folks who literally got phone calls upon leaving the building telling them to go to nurse recruitment cause there's a job offer.

@bionicRN Good to know! A two hour turnaround time is insane. Will post if I hear anything within the week. Already sent out handwritten thank you cards to score some brownie points. :)

@DWinNY @NS81 Have you guys heard back yet? Any interviews scheduled?

@DWinNY @NS81 Have you guys heard back yet? Any interviews scheduled?

Yes, I did finally hear back! Only after pestering the staffing office, as I was getting worried I might never hear anything. They told me it was taking longer to schedule the interviews as the nursing managers are getting busy with end of the year evaluations and such. Nonetheless, my interview is scheduled for next week right before the Thanksgiving holiday! Will let you guys know how it goes.

@sc128, would you mind sharing what sort of questions the nurse manager asked during your interview? I've heard a mix of responses from other people who have interviewed at NYU. Some people got grilled tough during their interview, while others didn't get asked much at all and practically got offered the job from the start. It probably varies by unit and manager, so I still want to be well-prepared!

@DWinNY I'm so glad to hear that you got an interview with a NM! Congrats! I heard the same thing about year end evaluations and NMs being very, very busy. I just accepted an offer today, three days after my interview with the NM. :) I'm beyond excited! It would be lovely if we could meet at the December orientation. As for the interview questions...here are the ones that I can remember:

What have you done between graduation and now?

What appealed to you about this unit?

Have you had clinicals here? What were they like? What did you learn?

Tell me how you got into nursing (nursing was my second career)

Besides these more direct and obvious questions the conversation went back and forth between the NM's experiences and my experiences. Before I left the interview she commented that my confidence was palpable, that the interview had gone "really well," and that she would definitely be recommending me for the position.

Good luck!

@sc128, congratulations on the offer!! Glad to hear that your interview went so well, I can only hope mine will go similarly. Thank you for sharing the interview questions and about your experience, I really appreciate it. I'll keep you updated!
