@DWinNY There's one place in the city and if you google it they should come up. I heard that people had more luck finding scrubs in Queens and Brooklyn. I bought mine at Life Uniform in Garden City. Of course allheart.com is a go-to site for a lot of people too but I couldn't justify the shipping cost and I wanted to try some on before I bought them.

@DWinNY I printed out the packet, filled it out by hand, and gave it to the point person at my appointment. Make sure you bring everything to your appointment (original documents, not copies, since he will make copies there). Good luck!

I'm very excited! @lkws5 As I understand it you don't apply to the program directly, rather you apply to open positions and if you are a new grad you are automatically a part of the new grad residency program. I can't shed light on whether or not they accept applications from students and unfortunately I don't know much about the orientation schedule. Perhaps posting a more general question on the New York Nursing board may yield more helpful information. Good luck!

I used Kaplan exclusively and it helped me pass. I actually did the online course for a week and it forced me to sit down and study and plan out how many questions I would do per day. My online instructor was really helpful too and our "class" formed a facebook group to field questions and encourage each other. I had a great experience with them. That being said, I also took the course and NCLEX relatively quickly after graduation so I was used to studying and the material wasn't too unfamiliar. I definitely recommend taking the course and using the qbank and qtrainers to prep right before the NCLEX. Good luck!

I reached out to clinical instructors and NMs on units where I had my clinical rotations and those leads proved to be more worthwhile. I also went to job fairs just to talk to recruiters directly (though there are hundreds of people at those things...). Good luck and be patient! There's a job waiting for you somewhere out there :)

@DWinNY Congrats on receiving your offer letter! I didn't have a problem scheduling the physical/paperwork since my nurse recruiter cc-ed the point person for that in our emails. I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble contacting your point person. In any case, I'll tell you about my experience. When he contacted me in mid-November, the date that he had in mind was in early December but I begged for him to schedule me in sooner and he was really great about it since he penciled me in for an extra early appointment at employee health services and had me come in for paperwork right after the appointment right before the Thanksgiving holiday. One thing that I had to follow-up on was whether or not I received a TD or TDAP (I had to ask my PHP to fax them documentation that I received a TDAP). Also, you don't get a PPD rather they draw blood (I think it's called quantiferon?) and you call them two days later to ask them if you are cleared. I found that the physical/paperwork process as a whole was relatively painless as long as you had documentation (immunization records, original diploma, transcripts, federal/state IDs) and filled out everything required (tax forms, background check forms, etc.). And I'm glad you got the BLS out of the way too. :) Hope you enjoy the rest of this month off before you start orientation next month. @greatgirl123 The pharm exam is a piece of cake. If you were able to pass dosage calculation exams in nursing school it should be a no brainer. @humblenurse12 I heard from my recruiter as well as my NM that the end of the year is a really busy time for NMs in general. From my understanding they have to do employee evaluations and that is quite time consuming. It might be that that is what is creating a delay for you. Also, the person to contact (in my case) was not the recruiter but the recruiter's assistant for scheduling the interview with the NM. Hope you hear from someone soon!

@DWinNY CONGRATULATIONS! So happy to hear that you got the green light from the NM :) I hope you hear before the holiday! I'm going in tomorrow for my physical and to submit my paperwork. One thing I could recommend that you do while you wait is to get BLS recertification since the card needs to be valid at least during the first three months of employment. Mine expires at the end of January so I went to a class on Monday to get it renewed. Hope I get to see you for the Dec. orientation! @greatgirl123 It is my understanding that after you submit the online assessment nurse recruitment will contact you for an interview only if you pass. I'm not sure what the criteria is to pass but the turnaround time to hear back varies. Hope you receive good news soon! Happy Thanksgiving folks!

I was offered the position three days after interviewing. But the offer is contingent upon clearing references, background check, and the physical exam. From what I've read on the forums and heard from fellow nurses there is no clear "wait time" for these things. I would recommend checking in after a week or so.

@DWinNY I'm so glad to hear that you got an interview with a NM! Congrats! I heard the same thing about year end evaluations and NMs being very, very busy. I just accepted an offer today, three days after my interview with the NM. :) I'm beyond excited! It would be lovely if we could meet at the December orientation. As for the interview questions...here are the ones that I can remember: What have you done between graduation and now? What appealed to you about this unit? Have you had clinicals here? What were they like? What did you learn? Tell me how you got into nursing (nursing was my second career) Besides these more direct and obvious questions the conversation went back and forth between the NM's experiences and my experiences. Before I left the interview she commented that my confidence was palpable, that the interview had gone "really well," and that she would definitely be recommending me for the position. Good luck!

Does anyone know why the time varies so much? Is it because of background checks and contacting references? I would appreciate your thoughts.

@dath3 @bcbischo I graduated this past May but was in a similar predicament when I applied. I asked my pre-req professors to email admissions directly and to CC me in the email. It was a simple email stating the name of the professor, the institution, and my midterm/current grade for the course. It was easy and apparently that was all the confirmation admissions needed.

Just had my interview today and it went really well. Met with a nurse recruiter in the morning. She was very nice, provided me with a lot of information (salary, benefits, nursing culture at NYU) and asked basic questions. Then she introduced me to a hiring assistant who then made a call to a nurse manager to see if I could interview with her. An hour later I met with the nurse manager (not a panel interview) and we spoke for about an hour. Again, it was pretty basic and more casual than I had anticipated. I received a tour of the unit and was introduced to the staff. All in all, a really wonderful experience. I am hoping and praying that they extend an offer. @bionicRN In regard to your question about orientation, I found out that there is an orientation in December and one in January. I was wondering how long it took for you to receive an offer after interviewing with the nurse manager?

Hey guys! I guess I must have done well on the assessment (took it two days ago) because I just got an interview scheduled for this upcoming Monday! Very excited! Will keep you posted on what I hear! :)
