NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008

Published

Hey!

I thought I should start a thread for people who applied to the NYU 15 Month Accelerated Nursing Program for Fall 2008.

Lets all be friends while we wait for April 1st to come around!

Does anybody have any info the selection process? Obviously it's competitive, but are they looking at anything in particular? (GPA, Pre-reqs, Extra-curriculars, etc.)

Share your stories and input.

Just got my acceptance letter today!!! But now I'm in a real bind, I actually started nursing school today at loyola univ in Chicago and only have today and tomorrow to receive full tuition refund .. and I don't know what to do!!! It has been my dream to go to NYU and live there but its about 30,000 more than Loyola and I'll likely be funding this all with loans. Any opinions would be great. Also, anyone receive their financial aid packet already? I don't know what to expect. Anyone know the max in stafford loans you can take out in a year for independent?

I say go where it is least expensive. 30k is a ton of cash!!I know what you mean though sometimes you get hour heart set on something!

for independent students u can take out $5000 unsubsidized and $5500 subsidized.

i say stay where u are too b/c it's significantly cheaper and save yourself all the hassle. In the end you'll get the same education, have to take the same NCLEX, and you'll earn the same license as ALL other nurses. You said it's been your dream to live here in NY...look at it this way: you can always work here as a nurse. Starting salaries here are much higher than most places (since cost of living is so expensive) but still...you won't be completing deferring your dream. jus my opinion...hope it helps! :)

O, and I've decided not to go to NYU :( I'm gonna go to the school I got accepted to in Nevada. this was a tough decision for me cuz i've ALWAYS wanted to go to NYU. but i'm taking a chance and leavin NY. the other school's a pretty good school too and MUCH CHEAPER! Amen! lol

Hi everyone! I just stumbled upon this page and I can't believe that I was waiting alone by myself also! (well, almost by myself... I was on the NYU forum).

Congrats to everyone who got in; to those who haven't yet--don't worry, you'll receive a reply soon~! I got my acceptance just last week (it was dated 5/13).

I was definitely sitting on pins and needles. Just the week before, one of my preclinical classmates from BMCC got her denial letter. NYU said that there were just too many applicants this year to hold her a spot and wait for her transcript (as she's still missing microbio and nutrition even after the end of this spring semester).

Does anyone know when they let us know about scholarships? And how much we receive if we do? I know someone mentioned NYU is pretty stingy with them... *sigh* :twocents:

to all, thanks for the informative posts... i hope to see you all in the fall! :nurse:

congrats!

to check your financial aid awards, you can access the information via ALBERT from NYU home page. you should have received information with your acceptance packet. Also, you should receive financial aid information in the mail shortly.

anyone know how long it takes to do the master's portion if you decide to do the BSN?MSN combined program??? So how long after the 15 mo ?

if you want, email me and i will attach the powerpoint that was presented with the majority of the information of the BSN/MSN

[email protected]

am i the only person left in limbo? has anyone else heard anything recently?

(kinda) practicing patience,

addie

To All, if you can, please join the facebook Group "NYU College of Nursing", post some of your questions on there. I'm trying to have them have a message board or link to one to help everyone answer there questions. This really wont help you but it will help the future applicants.

thanks

Joe

Hi,

I've been reading through this thread (and actually just joined the facebook group mentioned above and friended Joe). I have just been accepted into the accelerated program also. I think I might have to start in the winter because I have two more pre-reqs to finish up (A&P and Nutrition). Do I start these in the fall then? I don't know if anyone would know this but I was actually wondering if it's possible to recieve some tuition reimbursement after or during completion of this program. Maybe by becoming employed doing something at a hospital and promising to work for them or something? (I don't really know much about this). I'm already deep in loans from the college I'm graduating from now (another private school) and NYU is kinda pricey, but I feel like I'd really like it there. I know there's financail aide still to figure out...Pleeeeasssee let me know if there's a way for this reimbursement tho...:saint:

Hi. I'm new here and am hoping to get some help/info about the NYU Accelerated Nursing Program (January Admission)... Specifically, I'm looking to gauge my chances of acceptance, as I'm not exactly sure how competitive admission is...

I graduated from Boston U in '02 with a degree in Advertising and worked in Market Research as a Project Manager for about 3-4 years... and like many people on this forum, I decided I'd had enough of that line of work, and subsequently took an interest in Nursing. In the last year, I've finished up all but one of my pre-reqs and sciences at Westchester Community with a 4.0 (i'm squeezing in Micro come July), and am looking to apply for January admission to the NYU 15-Month Program... I volunteered for 3 months last summer at a hospital in Westchester with the nurses in the Ambulatory Unit, and recently started a Tech Associate Position at the same hospital in the Cardio-Pulm Unit...

Now, what is worrying me about possible rejection to this program is my spotty undergrad career... I finished up at BU with a not-a-so-hot 3.19 GPA in a pretty 'cake' Advertising program... but I also transferred a lot before I settled at BU; making stops at BC, a horrible semester at NYU, and a pointless semester at Manhattanville... suffice it to say, my undergrad career is not what you'd consider normal and I regret moving around so much to this day... Now, 6 years later, I'm a totally different person and a more focused student; and I'm hoping that this comes off to the Admissions Committee... My pre-req sciences are excellent (A's in A&P1/2, Chem, Nutrition, Stats, etc. and I'm hoping the trend continues with Micro this summer)... Being a guy also should not hurt... but i'm really just hoping my past doesn't come back to haunt me...

I'm also applying to the Pace Combined Degree Program for January Admission and am not sure how my chances are with that program as well... I'm trying to apply to programs with Spring Admission so I can start as early as possible and avoid having to begin in the Fall of 2009... And I'm a little nervous that right now I will only be applying to 2 schools, and if I don't get in to either of them I pretty much have to wait another year... Does anyone else know any other area programs with January Admission?

Anyway, sorry my first post is longer than some novels... I appreciate any help.

i feel bad bc this is an nyu forum but i was wondering if there were still anyone waiting to hear back from pace. i still havent heard from them but i applied early may so that's pretty late. i'm on the waitinglist for emory.

also, as for the bsn/msn program, do you guys know if pursuing msn is mandatory?

and i agree with everyone: waiting game sucks. :banghead:
