NYU Accelerated Nursing Program 2008

Published

Hey!

I thought I should start a thread for people who applied to the NYU 15 Month Accelerated Nursing Program for Fall 2008.

Lets all be friends while we wait for April 1st to come around!

Does anybody have any info the selection process? Obviously it's competitive, but are they looking at anything in particular? (GPA, Pre-reqs, Extra-curriculars, etc.)

Share your stories and input.

and waiting some more! i think my mailman is going to file a restraining order against me. most everyone has heard both acceptances/rejections, but I am still hanging out in limbo. they have not yet "made a decision on my file." so not a fun place to be. not to mention the fact that I am insanely impatient. ah well, just needed a place to vent.

Hang in there!!! NYU is cruel to keep you waiting this long... I have lots of sympathy for you! I wish you luck!

So far I've been reading and not contributing... addie, I'm with you, no word yet from NYU :( It makes me feel better to know that some rejections have gone out; that means they like us still, right? Hang in there!

I just wanted to introduce myself and say thank you to everyone as well....I have been reading the dialogues over the past few months and everyone has had very interesting things to say....

I am still waiting as well....it's tough at times but I guess the waiting time is good for those of us who have not heard anything yet.

the practice of patience....loving it.

Congratulations for those who got in!

one question: Do they accept students who have a class pending over summer school?

Thank YOU!

Hi All!

To those still waiting, my thoughts and the utmost of sympathy is with you...the waiting process is super agonizing, I feel your pain! I'm crossing my fingers for all of you! And, perhaps in this case, no news yet is good news....

To answer the posted question, NYU does accept with one or more pre-reqs pending. I have to complete Chemistry this summer (starts Monday), and they sent me an unofficial transfer transcript. When the required classes are completed before fall start-up you just have to send transcripts and documentation indicating you've passed the required courses.

Unless you have 3+ pre-reqs pending and your other pre-req grades are poor, I don't imagine it will make a huge difference. I believe NYU looks at a variety of factors, but weighs heavily your pre-req GPA, and your undergrad GPA, then other important variables, work experience, background, etc.

If it makes anyone feel better, I did not come from a science background but rather, a liberal arts degree with a focus in health science.

If I can be of more help, just let me know!

Good luck to those still waiting (fingers crossed) my prayers are with you!

Hey CalBear - I'm with you.. I've been reading and not contributing as well. Anyway, I'm still waiting for NYU and it has been a long and terrible wait, especially since I've had two friends, both of whom graduated from UCSC with me in 2006, receive acceptance letters to NYU. I called NYU yesterday and as I feared.. they said it could still be a few months until I hear. The other sinking feeling I get is the thought of the debt I'll accrue over the 15 months if I am accepted. It sounds like everyone will be in the same boat, but knowing that doesn't help much, when the cost of tuition is 65k, off campus rent could be up to 32k.. and then there's the cost of books and leisure. :/

hey addi or other pace applicants,

Did you get accepted for the bsn/MSN program that start sept 2008?

the deadline isn't until June 08 so I was interested to know if they were already letting people in.

Would you mind sharing your background, gpa etc? It would be helpful to know what

they look for.

I know how hard the waiting is. I just got denied by suny downstate and their program starts in 2 weeks but I sent my application 7 months ago !! So frustrating.

Best of luck,

Kristen

Hi everbody,

This is such a great forum...I can't believe I've been waiting alone this whole time! My husband found this site for me after early April came and went but this is the first time I've checked it out. Congrats to everybody who has gotten in--so exciting!

I talked to NYU last week and they said that they hadn't read my application yet but were going to last week and that I should hear by early this week.....Nothing yet! Has anybody else been given that time frame? I'm still trying to figure out if I should apply last minute to Pace for the fall or wait and see, and figure it out after I hear from NYU (which I hope is soon and good news!).

wow, I leave the forum for a couple days and there are a lot of new voices. welcome.

I would like to clarify a couple things.

One - Tuition

My tuition for this semester, with housing (and i believe I had one of the highest housing totals) was $24,587

I am living in the "dorms" (i put dorms in quotation marks because it's really like apartments) for the summer and am taking a 4 credit hour class, the total for that with housing (once again, the expensive, single person in bedroom housing) is $7344.

So I'll try to estimate your tuition and housing cost for the 15 month program

Semester 1 = $24,587

Semester 2 = $24,587

Summer= $13,780 (Housing = $3000, Tuition $980 x 11cr hr=$10780)

Semester 3 = $24,587

Grand Total = $87541.

-Now granted, and this is important!!! These numbers are based on what I have been billed, and as with every university, will go up every year, i believe that there is a certain % rate increase for the 08/09 academic year, but they are also increasing the financial aid by 12%.

-Above amount doesn't include books, food or transportation.

so just a rough estimation on those

books = $450/sem (x4 sem) = $1800

transportation = $82/mo (extreme side for unlimited metro card, but i like extreme!) $82 (x 15 months) = $1230

Food = $20/day (15 months x31 days x 20) = $9300

total extras = $12330

Grand total = $99871

If you would like to figure in a 3% tuition raise it would be safe to add an extra $2200. But I would rather not because my feeble mind can't process six figures very well.

Hope this helps

Sarahbear,

I'm sorry that you're waiting, when did you send your application in? That's interesting that they still haven't read it yet, no worries though.

As for applying to Pace I would say go for it. I applied to four different schools. I figured it would be better to have some options instead of putting, sorry for this old saying, "all your eggs in one basket".

good luck!

Hi - I also applied to Pace and talked a lot with Susan Ford in Admissions - she is very reachable and sweet! I was accepted there at the beginning of last month. They are accepting folks on a rolling basis and I think the more contact you have with them the better chance of getting an early acceptance. Good luck!!

hey kristen,

yeah i heard from pace around two, three weeks ago? i think? sometime around then. but i decided to defer....they wanted to know an answer very quickly. as far as stats, i had pretty high grades from ucla. and so far, (god willing), ive gotten all A's in my prereqs. im about to finish off chem and micro very soon.

i feel like pace looks at the whole package, so any volunteer work experience im sure is a plus. im sure you will hear very soon! and believe me, I totally empathize with the waiting. lets just hang on in there!!!

by the way, anyone who was already accepted to nyu, when did you have to let them know your decision? three weeks? two? just wondering....

addie
